Chapter 213: 213 Mount Flower VS Temple of the Gods 8_1
Alva had been keeping an eye on Wen Jiang, so they noticed when Wen Jiang released seven or eight Dandelion puffs.
The first phase had been effortlessly dissolved by the Sirens.
But in the second phase, the previously slow-drifting Dandelions suddenly accelerated with the River Maiden’s flower mist, quickly merging into it.
Alva took note of this and had Demos attack with corrosive dense fog; Demos’s control ability also inflicted damage.
However, the seven or eight Dandelion puffs drifted in different directions. The River Maiden’s blooming flower mist obscured vision, making the Dandelions suddenly less conspicuous.
The Seven-Star Butterfly’s flowers, released by Chen Runyu, had spread to the Card Spirit Demos, affecting him somewhat.
The River Maiden’s blooming location wasn’t too critical, and the members of the Temple of the Gods maneuvered their Card Spirits to avoid the spreading flower mist.
The assassin Lamia couldn’t stand it anymore. As the River Maiden had entered her free-attack range, she naturally didn’t hesitate to teleport forward and land a heavy blow on the River Maiden.
Dou Yuan suddenly felt as if his soul had been dealt a massive blow. He was dizzy and disoriented, and his spiritual power rapidly declined.
Even during this process, Circe and Eros were still watching Hou Yi. But when they moved, they discovered two Dandelion puffs had floated before them. Due to the River Maiden’s ability range, they had been forced into the same location.
Dandelions were rather unpredictable. They were slower than normal cards, but if not dissolved, they would persist, which was very troublesome. Avoiding them was easy for the members of the Temple of the Gods, so Demos and Merlinuo also began to clear them away.
The returning Lamia also casually cut down one.
But just as Circe and Eros were about to dodge, they suddenly saw the slowly drifting Dandelions before them split. Each one divided into three, accelerating abruptly and fanning out in three directions. It was inescapable; one puff still shot straight towards Circe’s and Eros’s foreheads.
In an instant, both Card Spirits’ vision went blank.
The advantage of controlling two cards was that if one Card Spirit went blind, the other could still see. But being able to see didn’t necessarily mean things were better.
The Temple of the Gods members controlling Eros almost bellowed, "This is bad!" If both of them are blind, Hou Yi will have his chance!
Wen Jiang certainly wouldn’t miss this opportunity. Hou Yi immediately drew his bow and fired. Alva’s pupils dilated suddenly.
"FUCK, DAMMIT!!!" Alva cursed. Of course, he was cursing; Wen Jiang had targeted *him*.
Merlinuo suddenly lost all ability to resist.
BOOM— A fiery red arrow streaked across the sky, shooting straight towards Merlinuo. The support player activated Changer’s defensive barrier. Knowing Merlinuo was a key offensive Card Spirit that couldn’t be lost, the player prepared to have their own Card Spirit shield Merlinuo.
But any nascent hope was instantly dashed. Wen Jiang’s Hou Yi drew his bow and, within half a second, fired a second arrow, again targeting Merlinuo.
Here, the Temple of the Gods made a critical error.
Support Card Spirits were indeed much more fragile than offensive ones. Furthermore, the player controlling Ourelitaya was dual-wielding cards. Despite Changer’s defensive abilities, not everyone possessed Wen Jiang’s terrifying manipulation power. The Temple of the Gods’ Changer Card was not activated at the crucial moment, causing its defense to drop slightly. An arrow fueled by Wen Jiang’s spiritual power then struck Ourelitaya directly!
Ourelitaya, originally a goddess with beautiful, wavy golden hair, appeared perfect yet fragile. Struck by the arrow, Ourelitaya screamed and then, with a BOOM, disintegrated!
The second arrow charged with menacing force. In that instant, no other Card Spirit could shield Merlinuo. Relying on Changer’s power, Merlinuo endured the hit.
The Goddess of Lost Souls, clothed entirely in black, grunted, and Alva simultaneously felt a dull ache in his head.
Cold sweat broke out all over Alva, but on the field, Merlinuo was still stubbornly holding on. This was a sign that Alva’s spiritual power was nearly exhausted. Wen Jiang’s arrow was more terrifying than if Alva himself had launched it. As the player with the most abundant spiritual power for offense, even controlling two cards and benefiting from Changer’s defensive abilities, he shouldn’t have been hurt this badly.
The power of this arrow was utterly fearsome.
Eros and Circe were blinded for only a second, but in that fleeting moment, they watched helplessly as two of their teammates were nearly eliminated.
They finally understood: assigning three Card Spirits to watch Wen Jiang wasn’t an overestimation; it was no joke.
They should have assigned all nine of their Card Spirits to focus on Wen Jiang!
Of course, the battle wasn’t over. Wen Jiang restrained her excitement, resisting the urge to fire a third arrow. After all, how could her spiritual power be significantly affected by just three cards? She considered that ascending too quickly to S Rank or UR Rank might make her a prominent target. So, she quickly commanded, "Ruan Chunen, change the healing target to Seven-Star Butterfly! Dou Yuan, your sacrifice was valuable. Shi Qi, it’s your turn to shine! Target Circe!"
The dense fog from the River Maiden hadn’t yet cleared, as Hou Yi’s attacks had been too swift. Upon hearing Wen Jiang’s command, Dou Yuan knew she intended to sacrifice his River Maiden.
River Maiden’s role had been fulfilled. From the beginning, Wen Jiang had decided that River Maiden was the card to be sacrificed.
There was no way their team could win the match without losing a single Card Spirit. After all, they were about to face a furious counterattack from their adversaries, and Dou Yuan, controlling River Maiden deep in enemy territory, was beyond saving.
Chen Runyu was now at his limit. Ruan Chunen, without hesitation, shoved a freshly concocted pill into Chen Runyu’s mouth. Wen Jiang, controlling Ghost Wood, continued to heal Chen Runyu. Without Ourelitaya’s buff, Ghost Wood’s healing now merely matched the damage output from the Assassin Card Oneri. Still, Chen Runyu could hold on a bit longer.
He only needed a moment longer. If his flowers could affect everyone in the Temple of the Gods, they would have a chance!
Dou Yuan’s River Maiden had taken a severe hit and was under continuous assault from Merlinuo. Now that their opponents had realized the situation, Alva reacted quickly. Seeing that the River Maiden wasn’t retreating, he knew what Wen Jiang’s side was planning. Dou Yuan surely can’t withstand pushing River Maiden to unleash its ability to its limits again so soon, Alva thought. That Card Spirit is finished anyway. Merlinuo won’t last much longer, and my Sirens are still active. I can’t risk losing Merlinuo by focusing on a Card Spirit that’s about to collapse; that would be sacrificing a greater gain for a smaller one.
Better to make one final contribution, Dou Yuan resolved. Even as Alva, controlling Merlinuo, made a cage descend from the sky to lock onto River Maiden again, Dou Yuan, having understood Wen Jiang’s intention, took a deep breath. Without hesitation, just before the cage could claim River Maiden’s life, he pushed it to release a third burst of flower mist.
BANG— Assassin Lamia and Merlinuo targeted River Maiden. BOOM— The Card Spirit’s defensive system couldn’t hold and collapsed instantly.
Dou Yuan was eliminated. He appeared serene; his spiritual power was still intact. However, River Maiden, as a Control Card without healing support, would have found it challenging to withstand the enemy’s focused attacks much longer anyway.
Upon seeing River Maiden disappear, Alva decisively gave up on Merlinuo, who was already on the brink of destruction. He withdrew her automatically, which was equivalent to voluntarily abandoning the Card Spirit. The spiritual power consumption of maintaining two powerful cards had been too great. He still had Sirens, and thus, still a chance!
