Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Skill activated? Oh Please!
Huo Feng walked straight to her under the gazes of the guests.
Lu Ting raised her brows seeing her son-in-law. Lu Ran sat back on his seat, eager to watch the drama.
"Here, for you." He thrust the flowers to her, and she had no option than to collect it.
"You know you didn’t have to bring me flowers. This will cause unnecessary spotlight on me." Yue Ning said helplessly, but she was admiring the flowers.
"I don’t see anything wrong with me bringing flowers for my wife," Huo Feng said without batting an eyelid.
"I didn’t expect that Young Master Huo would grace this occasion today. I’m honored."
All of a sudden, a cold, yet honeyed voice sounded, and all eyes turned towards the source.
Lu Ran leaned over, and whispered into Yue Ning’s ears. "That is Xu Yuelan."
Yue Ning’s eyes flashed with acknowledgement. So this was Huo Feng’s... ex-fiance.
Xu Yuelan was dressed in a cream-colored dress. Each step of hers was elegant. There was a perfect and practiced smile on her face as she reached where Huo Feng was.
"Young Master Huo." She greeted him with a smile. "Aunt, Cousin," she gave a small acknowledgement to Lu Ting and Lu Ran, deliberately ignoring Yue Ning.
’Rude!’
Yue Ning rolled her eyes at the obvious disrespect.
"Miss Xu," Huo Feng calmly replied, naturally taking the empty seat beside Yue Ning, and not paying attention to Xu Yuelan anymore.
This action of his ticked the lady. But despite her annoyance, she still kept the smile on her lips.
"Yuelan, you seem to be forgetting someone else," Lu Ran reminded her when he saw that she wasn’t ready to greet his younger sister.
Xu Yuelan calmly tilted her head, "who am I to greet? Oh... it is Cousin Sister!" Her hands flew to her mouth as she exclaimed. "Pardon me, I didn’t see you there."
Huo Feng’s eyes darkened. Lu Ting pursed her lips. Lu Ran’s hands clenched. As for the main character, she calmly picked up a glass of wine and took a sip.
"If your eyes are that poor, Miss Xu, I’d be happy to recommend an optician. It would save you future embarrassment." Yue Ning’s voice was sweet, but the words which came out of her mouth were venomous.
Xu Yuelan parted her lips in shock. ’Didn’t Yue Chen say she is weak and never fights back? Did she lie to me?’ She asked herself, her brows furrowing in confusion as well as anger.
While she reflected on what Yue Chen had told her a few weeks ago, Huo Feng calmly placed some pastries into Yue Ning’s plate.
Lu Ran’s lips twitched at the obvious public display of affection. On the other hand, Lu Ting was more than satisfied with Huo Feng’s actions. It showed that he valued her daughter, and what more could a mother ask for?
Yue Ning was enjoying the pastries. She didn’t care about Xu Yuelan who was standing like an outcast. She couldn’t be bothered with her.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Xubm Yuelan stomped her feet before striding away. Lu Ran snorted. He had long been dissatisfied with this cousin of his.
Just when she thought the system had gone silent for the evening, a cold chime rang in her head.
[Skill activated: Ability to make a person cry.]
Yue Ning blinked. Of all the useless skills... why this one? She nearly choked on her pastry at the absurdity.
All attention on the table was drawn to her. Huo Feng rubbed her back, Lu Ran hastily poured her a glass of water, and Lu Ting—she had a worried expression on her face.
After Yue Ning’s condition had stabilized, she looked at the people who all had worried and concerned looks on her face, and she sighed helplessly.
"I only choked on something," she murmured.
"Your health is of utmost importance to us," Lu Ting muttered, the worry still evident in her eyes.
"I am fine, Mom. I only thought about something," Yue Ning explained patiently.
Lu Ting still had a worried expression on her face as she stared at Yue Ning. She only shifted her attention when Yue Ning gave her a reassuring gaze. She then turned her attention to the feeling aristocratic ladies seated close to her as they discussed among themselves.
Yue Ning’s lips pursed slightly. The most useless skill she had just been... activated? What could she do with it? She asked herself, confusion flashing through her eyes.
’It will help you with your task,’ the system answered.
"What is wrong? You’ve been frowning since I arrived," Huo Feng whispered into her ears.
Yue Ning’s lips slowly curved as she looked at the man who was sitting quite close to her. From afar, it seemed like he was glued to her.
"You never told me you will be present for the banquet," she said with her hands folded.
Huo Feng grinned. "I wanted to surprise you," he confessed.
A mischievous thought flashed through Yue Ning’s mind at once. "Or are you here to see your ex-fiancé?" She questioned him, her eyes revealing a cold light.
Huo Feng was stunned. His lips parted in shock as he looked at Yue Ning who had her brows raised.
"How did you know about it?" He asked, his brows knitting.
"My brother thought it was right to let me know about this matter," Yue Ning answered.
Lu Ran chirped in. "Huo Feng, you didn’t let my sister know about your previous engagement? What else are you hiding from her?"
Huo Feng’s expression darkened as he cast a glare towards Lu Ran. "I am not hiding anything from her. And the reason I didn’t let her know about the engagement was because it didn’t matter. And as you know, the engagement is already off."
Huo Feng enunciated each word clearly. "I don’t have any feelings for Miss Xu, and this was the reason the engagement was called off. I don’t see any reason to mention it again."
Huo Feng wasn’t the type to waste his breath explaining each action of his. But Yue Ning was his wife. If she had the slightest doubt, it was his responsibility to clear it.
He leaned closer to her, his words firmer. "Listen carefully, Yue Ning. I don’t look back. The only woman who matters is sitting right here beside me. Xu Yuelan was nothing then, and she is less than nothing now."
All of a sudden, a sharp crash split the air. Xu Yuelan’s wine glass lay in shards at her feet, her pale face twisted in disbelief as all eyes turned to her. The mask of grace she had worn so carefully was beginning to crack.
