"Hospital."
"Hospital? The final match is in a hospital?"
All eyes turned to the middle-aged man.
"Yes," the middle-aged man said without further explanation, opening the passenger door and getting in.
The remaining five doctors got into the car, still discussing what the final match would be.
After about half an hour of driving, the van slowly pulled into a private hospital.
The Long family's businesses spanned all industries, and this private hospital was one of their properties.
As the vehicle approached the hospital entrance, several middle-aged men in white coats hurried forward.
After all, the five doctors in the car, except for Chen Fan, were all renowned experts from home and abroad.
"Welcome, esteemed experts, to our Kangcheng Hospital for guidance," the leading middle-aged man said obsequiously to the elders alighting from the car. He was Ma Zili, the director of Kangcheng Hospital.
This was the first time their hospital had so many experts present simultaneously, and almost all the hospital's leadership had come to the entrance.
If the notification hadn't been so short, they might have even prepared banners to welcome them.
The elders who alighted from the car were rosy-cheeked and seemed accustomed to such adulation.
"Elder Qi, Elder Fang, Elder Ren, Elder Liu," Ma Zili greeted each one with great humility.
However, he paused when he reached Chen Fan, then looked at the middle-aged man with some confusion. "Mr. Xu, you said there were five experts. Why are there only four?"
Upon hearing this, the four elders all smiled and glanced at Chen Fan, whom Ma Zili had overlooked.
The middle-aged man pointed at Chen Fan and explained, "And Dr. Chen. He is also an authoritative expert in neurosurgery."
"Dr. Chen?" Ma Zili's gaze fell on Chen Fan, scrutinizing him from head to toe.
He rapidly searched his mind for information on Chen Fan but, unfortunately, he did not recognize him.
"Director Ma, is the surgery ready? Does the patient have any other concerns?" Xu Mao inquired.
"Manager Xu, it's ready. With these experts performing the surgery together, he'll be more than happy!" Ma Zili replied with a smile.
"Surgery? Mr. Xu, is this final match a surgery?" The elders exchanged glances.
"Yes. For the patient's specific condition, Director Ma will explain it to you," Xu Mao nodded in response.
"Esteemed experts, please come inside." Ma Zili made a gesture of invitation.
Subsequently, everyone slowly walked into the Kangcheng Hospital building.
Upon arriving at the conference room and after Ma Zili's introduction, everyone learned that the final match was to save a patient with a cerebral aneurysm.
Moreover, the aneurysm was located in an extremely complex position, surrounded by nerves and adjacent to brain tissue. It could be said that even the slightest mistake would be fatal for the patient.
Looking at the brain CT scans and other optical reports, the four elders fell into deep thought.
They knew that such a difficult surgery was not something even they could guarantee success in, due to the immense risk involved.
More importantly, if the surgery failed, it would have a significant negative impact on their reputations and might even be a net loss.
"Elder Ren, the aneurysm is your specialty. How about you perform this surgery as the chief surgeon?" one of the elders asked.
The other two also looked at Elder Ren.
Elder Ren sighed, "Alas, I can't anymore. My eyes are not as good as they used to be, and I can't be the chief surgeon."
"Elder Liu has the best physique among us. How about you, Elder Liu, take the lead?"
Elder Liu quickly waved his hand, "I've done too few aneurysm surgeries. Let the other two handle it."
Elder Qi and Elder Fang exchanged glances. They could see from each other's eyes that neither of them wanted to be the chief surgeon.
The situation fell into an awkward silence.
Ma Zili checked the time, "Esteemed experts, time is running short. The patient is already prepared in the operating room."
Hearing Ma Zili's words, they looked at each other again, and still, no one stepped forward to be the chief surgeon.
"I will," Chen Fan, who had been observing the imaging data, suddenly spoke.
Instantly, all eyes turned to Chen Fan.
"Are you sure? You want to be the chief surgeon?" Ma Zili asked Chen Fan with surprise.
"Do you have any objections? If you do, you can be the chief surgeon," Chen Fan glanced at Ma Zili and the others and asked.
"If Dr. Chen is willing to be the chief surgeon, we naturally have no objections."
The elders quickly waved their hands.
It wasn't that they were unwilling to be the chief surgeon, but rather that the success rate of this surgery was extremely low. If they encountered such a patient, they would likely inform the family immediately, tell them to do whatever they wanted to do, and await death, rather than attempting surgery.
"Let's go to the operating room," Chen Fan said.
"Alright." Ma Zili had no choice, as the four experts were unwilling to take the risk.
On the way to the operating room, the four of them made their respective divisions of labor, though they certainly wouldn't fight over the chief surgeon position.
As for Ma Zili, he also entered the operating room. He was still somewhat uneasy about Chen Fan's skills.
If something went wrong with Chen Fan and the four experts refused to intervene, he could still provide timely assistance.
After Chen Fan and the others arrived in the operating room, anesthesia officially began.
However, what happened next stunned all the medical staff in the operating room.
When they saw Chen Fan and the others enter the operating room, they assumed the young Chen Fan was a student of one of the experts. But to their surprise, the youngest person in the operating room was actually standing in the chief surgeon's position!
Before everyone could recover from their shock, they saw Elder Liu and the others standing beside the original medical staff, taking over their duties.
For a moment, all the medical staff in the operating room were dumbfounded.
What was going on? Was that young doctor the chief surgeon? They looked at each other in bewilderment.
"Begin the surgery," Chen Fan's voice rang out.
Elder Liu, holding the instruments, began the craniotomy.
The doctor who was originally responsible for the craniotomy was stunned. Having an internationally renowned expert perform a craniotomy was something he had never witnessed before, which left him somewhat flustered.
The division of labor among the four experts was also very clear.
Elder Liu was responsible for the craniotomy, Elder Ren for passing instruments, Elder Fang for monitoring equipment and administering medication, and Elder Qi for the final closure. Chen Fan was the sole chief surgeon.
Elder Liu, as expected of a neurosurgery expert, performed the craniotomy with a level of skill that was beyond their capabilities. The position and size of the incision were perfect.
"Dr. Chen, the rest is up to you," Elder Liu said, stepping aside and looking at Chen Fan.
Chen Fan then took over Elder Liu's position.
