Qin He felt a warmth in her heart while with Old Mrs. Gu.
Though she had lost the memories of the past two years, an inexplicable sense of familiarity assured Qin He that Grandma Gu must have treated her very well before.
The frequent topics of their conversation were all about mundane family matters.
At ten-thirty in the morning, footsteps were heard from the spiral staircase.
Qin He was sitting on a sofa facing the staircase, and she glanced up as Madam Gu descended.
"Qin He? What are you doing here?" Madam Gu's voice carried a hint of annoyance.
Since the other party was being impolite, Qin He remained seated, showing little regard.
Madam Gu, not receiving a response, immediately glared, "Still that irritating demeanor. Fortunately, Qi Shen has already—"
Old Mrs. Gu shot her a cold look, "He'er is my guest. Do you have a problem with that?"
Old Mrs. Gu was still in charge of the Gu family, so Madam Gu fell silent. With a displeased glance at Qin He, she turned and headed for the dining room.
"She has this temper. He'er, don't take it to heart."
Qin He smiled, "I won't."
She had no connection with the Gu family now, and only Grandma Gu was someone she cared about.
Madam Gu was not in a position to warrant her anger.
"He'er is so generous," Old Mrs. Gu said with a chuckle, patting Qin He's hand. "Now that you're here today, you must stay with Grandma all day."
Qin He had no objections. However, Madam Gu, after finishing her breakfast and coming out of the dining room, shot Qin He another glare before leaving.
The second floor of the Gu residence.
Madam Gu sat in the bedroom, feeling stifled with anger.
Was her mother-in-law blind? Why invite that jinx, Qin He, into their home?
Indeed, her brain wasn't working properly even after falling ill!
At noon, Old Mrs. Gu and Qin He had lunch. Madam Gu did not come downstairs.
After lunch, they chatted for a while longer when the Gu family's butler walked over.
"Old Madam, it's time for your nap."
Old Mrs. Gu looked at the butler, then at Qin He. She was reluctant, "I won't nap today."
Qin He couldn't help but chuckle, "Grandma, you should go and take your nap. After your nap, you'll be more energetic, and then we can chat all day."
The old lady looked like a child, seemingly afraid that Qin He would leave while she was asleep.
"Then I'll sleep for an hour. He'er, you play at home. The butler will accompany you. You can go wherever you like."
"Okay, Grandma."
Watching the maid help Old Mrs. Gu leave, Qin He sat in the living room and looked at the butler.
The butler bowed respectfully, "Young—Miss Qin, please call me if you need anything."
Qin He was curious about her past two years, and she smiled faintly, "Butler, there are some things I'd like to discuss with you."
The butler looked at her with complex emotions. Qin He felt he must know a lot.
After chatting with the butler for a while, it was mostly Qin He asking questions and him answering.
Those past two years were not a secret. In no time, Qin He learned about a completely different self from the butler's account.
A self who spoke softly and gently.
Qin He had a general idea and was about to dismiss the butler.
From the spiral staircase, Madam Gu descended again.
Qin He narrowed her eyes. When Grandma Gu was present, Madam Gu hadn't even come down for lunch.
She must have calculated that Grandma Gu was absent before coming down now.
Trouble was brewing.
After descending, Madam Gu stood before Qin He with her arms crossed.
"The old lady is asleep, why are you still shamelessly lingering here?"
Qin He leaned back slightly, sitting even more firmly.
"Are you deaf? Is this how your Qin family was raised?" Madam Gu raised her eyebrows in a haughty manner. "You want to use the old lady to get back to my son, don't you? I'm telling you, you'd better not harbor any delusions!"
The butler stood by, head bowed respectfully, saying nothing.
Qin He frowned slightly and glanced at Madam Gu, "Let's not talk about how your Qin family was raised. You've certainly shown a clear example of your Gu family's upbringing."
Madam Gu didn't expect the usually meek and easy-to-handle person to talk back. Anger caused the veins on her forehead to bulge.
"Butler, throw her out!"
The butler replied respectfully, "Madam, it was the old lady who asked Miss Qin to stay. She also instructed me to look after Miss Qin."
Madam Gu glared, the anger seemingly trapped in her chest.
She gritted her teeth and looked at Qin He's mocking gaze.
"Fine! Stay if you must! Qin He, come and serve me my meal!"
Qin He narrowed her eyes, "Does your Gu family like guests to serve meals? How should I serve? Do I need to feed you mouth-to-mouth?"
Madam Gu's eyes widened. She had already allowed Qin He to stay, and Qin He was now mocking her instead of being grateful?!
This was going too far!
Qin He smiled teasingly, "If Madam Gu has an issue with her hands, I don't mind."
Madam Gu became enraged, "Good, very good! You just wait!"
Her expression, as if she were about to spit blood from anger, made Qin He feel quite pleased.
She sat in the living room and watched Madam Gu storm into the dining room, then took out her phone and started looking at it.
The living room was quiet. Madam Gu had suffered two verbal blows and didn't come to cause trouble again.
Qin He stretched lazily.
After watching financial news for over half an hour, there was a sound at the entrance.
Qin He looked up. A tall, slender figure walked in. Gu Qi Shen, with his extraordinary demeanor and a black suit that exuded an aura of opulence.
Upon entering, Gu Qi Shen saw Qin He and paused. He walked to a nearby sofa and sat down, "You're here."
Qin He held her phone, "En."
She subtly glanced at Gu Qi Shen's profile. Her old phone had recorded many things about him.
She knew Gu Qi Shen rarely visited the old residence and was dedicated to Gu Corporation, basically staying at the office even on weekends.
Why was he here today?
The living room fell silent. Qin He repeatedly tried to convince herself to just pretend the cold presence beside her wasn't there.
But Gu Qi Shen's presence was too strong.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Gu Qi Shen spoke first, "Thank you for coming to see Grandma."
Qin He was slightly surprised, "No need. I don't have anything much to do on weekends anyway."
The atmosphere fell into silence again.
Gu Qi Shen's brows furrowed slightly. He gazed at Qin He, racking his brain, "We received a call from Xicheng today. They said the contract for the ancestral hall has been finalized."
When it came to business, Qin He immediately put down her phone.
"How were the terms negotiated?"
"Following your previous suggestions, those people chose money."
Qin He let out a cold laugh, "I've investigated their backgrounds. They all have some wealth. The ancestral hall was almost collapsing, yet they never bothered to repair it. Now, at this time, they bring up ancestral feng shui. But when money and ancestors are placed together, what do ancestors even matter?"
Qin He's voice was calm, seemingly devoid of emotion, but the sarcasm in her words was clear.
From the second-floor staircase in the living room, Old Mrs. Gu watched the two talking on the second floor, her eyes curved in a smile.
"Old Madam—" a maid beside her spoke.
Old Mrs. Gu immediately made a shushing gesture and waved her hand, taking the maid back to her bedroom.
