Chapter 9 Cripple Your Hands

After coldly issuing a threatening remark, Shen Chi Yan turned his gaze back to the documents.

Song Qi Nian, however, was filled with sadness upon hearing Shen Chi Yan's words.

Suddenly... she seemed to realize something, and a hint of joy colored her eyes.

Just now... Shen Chi Yan went to her hospital room, right?

He saw the male doctor in her room, so he was jealous?

Soon, Song Qi Nian shook her head again. Shen Chi Yan didn't like her, so how could he be jealous?

But as soon as this thought arose, Song Qi Nian couldn't help but overthink.

After hesitating for a long time, Song Qi Nian reached out and gently poked Shen Chi Yan's arm.

Shen Chi Yan looked at her abruptly, his brows furrowed, a look of impatience on his face.

Song Qi Nian was a little scared, but she still braced herself and explained, "The doctor is just a doctor."

When Song Qi Nian gestured to people, her deer-like eyes would stare directly at them, for fear that others wouldn't understand what she was trying to convey.

Shen Chi Yan's heart skipped a beat from her gaze. He felt inexplicably irritable. His slightly softened expression turned gloomy and cold again, "Is this how you seduce people?"

Song Qi Nian frantically waved her hands. The next second, her fair and tender small hand was grasped by Shen Chi Yan.

Shen Chi Yan looked at her slender fingers with his dark eyes, a wicked, bloodthirsty smile curling his lips, "You're mute and can only gesture. If I cripple these hands, you..."

Before Shen Chi Yan could finish speaking, Song Qi Nian, like a startled bird, quickly withdrew her hand and hid it behind her back.

She leaned against the car door, trying to distance herself from Shen Chi Yan as much as possible, as if he were some kind of monstrous beast.

Shen Chi Yan's expression was grim, and his mood was quite unpleasant.

Fortunately, they had arrived at the old Shen family residence by this time.

As Gao Kun Lun opened the car door, Song Qi Nian quickly got out.

Shen Chi Yan watched Song Qi Nian, who was running faster than a rabbit, and let out a soft scoff. Where had the courage she had when she climbed into his bed gone?

The old Madam Shen knew that Shen Chi Yan and Song Qi Nian were coming and had specifically asked the servants to prepare a table full of delicious food.

As soon as she saw Song Qi Nian, the old Madam excitedly stepped forward, "Oh, my precious granddaughter-in-law, Nian Nian! Are you alright?"

The old Madam's hair was entirely white, but she was full of spirit. She wore frameless glasses with a silver chain, her face kind and exceptionally benevolent.

Song Qi Nian was pulled by the old Madam and examined. Song Qi Nian smiled at the elder and gestured, "Grandma, I'm very well."

Seeing Shen Chi Yan enter and noticing his eyes fixed on her hand, Song Qi Nian remembered his threat to cripple her hand and hid it behind her back again.

The old Madam, being sharp as a needle, saw this scene and, angered, struck Shen Chi Yan a few times, "You scoundrel, I entrusted Nian Nian to you, and this is how you take care of her? Letting the servants bully her, making Nian Nian fall ill and be hospitalized! Did you also threaten her, forbidding her from using sign language from now on?"

Before Shen Chi Yan could speak, Song Qi Nian instinctively tried to defend him, "No..."

Before Song Qi Nian could finish gesturing, Shen Chi Yan's voice coldly interrupted, "In your eyes, her status is even higher than mine, your own grandson. How would I dare to bully her?"

The old Madam knew her grandson best. Seeing Shen Chi Yan's demeanor, she knew he still resented being forced to marry Song Qi Nian three years ago.

"Hmph, you know that's good!"

The old Madam ignored Shen Chi Yan and pulled Song Qi Nian along enthusiastically, "Nian Nian, I had Auntie cook many of your favorite dishes. You're too thin, you must eat well and replenish your body."

Song Qi Nian knew that Grandma was different from Shen Chi Yan.

Grandma wanted her to eat well not for her blood, but out of genuine concern and affection for her.

A happy smile appeared on Song Qi Nian's face, and she sat down with her grandmother.

At the dinner table, the old Madam enthusiastically served Song Qi Nian food. Song Qi Nian happily interacted with the old Madam. Shen Chi Yan, the patriarch of the Shen family, was utterly ignored by the two women.

After dinner, the old Madam pulled Song Qi Nian to sit on the sofa and watch television. The TV was showing a female-led drama starring Gu Zhi Yan. Song Qi Nian had met Gu Zhi Yan once on the day she married Shen Chi Yan.

Gu Zhi Yan, the film empress, was Shen Chi Yan's biological mother. She had dominated the entertainment industry for many years and was an undisputed acting powerhouse.

Upon seeing Gu Zhi Yan, the old Madam snorted, "She's already past fifty and still runs off to film every day. What's the use of earning so much money? Wouldn't it be better to enjoy life?"

Song Qi Nian knew the old Madam was concerned about her daughter-in-law. Years ago, Shen Zheng Hao, Shen Chi Yan's father, had insisted on divorcing Gu Zhi Yan. In a fit of anger, the old Madam had her own son leave with nothing, but kept her grandson and daughter-in-law at home.

In the Shen family, the old Madam held absolute authority. Even Shen Chi Yan had to listen to her.

Song Qi Nian smiled and gestured, "It has nothing to do with money. Mom just likes filming. It's her career and her dream. She finds joy and accomplishment in it."

The old Madam affectionately patted Song Qi Nian's head, "My Nian Nian is so good."

Thinking of something, she sighed again, "Nian Nian, are you truly happy marrying that boy Chi Yan?"

Song Qi Nian turned her head and saw Shen Chi Yan taking a phone call on the balcony. She then smiled at the old Madam and signed, "As long as I can be with him, I'm very happy."

Seeing the old Madam looking at her with concern in her eyes, Song Qi Nian's smile became even brighter to avoid making her worry, "Grandma, I'm really doing well. And thank you. If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have had the chance to marry him in this lifetime."

"Good child, you've suffered."

Song Qi Nian quickly shook her head. She didn't feel any suffering at all. Compared to those who loved and couldn't have their love, she was already fortunate enough to be Shen Chi Yan's wife.

The old Madam was still anxious that after three years of marriage, Shen Chi Yan and Song Qi Nian's relationship had made no progress, so she decided to help them.

When Shen Chi Yan finished his call and returned, the old Madam looked at him and said, "Chi Yan, you and Nian Nian will stay here tonight. I've had the rooms prepared."

Upon hearing this, Shen Chi Yan's brows furrowed tightly.

Seeing this, Song Qi Nian was about to gesture when the old Madam's stern voice rang out again, "What? You dislike my home?"

At these words, Song Qi Nian dared not move.

The old Madam's sharp, shrewd eyes glared at Shen Chi Yan, her expression and posture as if she would mete out family punishment if Shen Chi Yan refused to stay at home.

The old Madam was old, and Shen Chi Yan didn't want to upset her over such a small matter. He glanced faintly at Song Qi Nian with his dark, ink-like eyes, curled his lips, and gave a soft scoff, "Alright."

Only then did the old Madam nod in satisfaction, "Nian Nian, you go take a bath and rest first. Chi Yan and I have a few more things to discuss."

Just then, a servant from the house walked over and respectfully said to Song Qi Nian, "Young Madam, please follow me."

Song Qi Nian nodded and followed the servant to the room, glancing back repeatedly.

Watching Song Qi Nian's back disappear around the corner, the old Madam asked Shen Chi Yan to sit on the sofa and then slowly began, "I know you're still blaming me for insisting you marry Nian Nian back then, but have you ever thought about why I did that?"
