Since You Siqi had said so, Liu Buli and the others naturally stopped worrying.
Or to be honest, in their current situation, it was already difficult enough to fend for themselves. To divert energy to protect You Siqi was something they could only consider after they had fully adapted to this unfathomable darkness. As things stood, it was indeed not easy to achieve.
As if sensing their predicament, in the midst of the darkness, the ghost's voice sounded again. It was filled with helplessness and unease. He said, "I know the current situation might indeed be a bit problematic for you. But I regret to inform you that I must send you to the deadlands as soon as possible. Because the longer you linger in the ghost city, the greater the possibility of being discovered by the King. If that happens, both you and I, everyone, will die."
This was something they understood perfectly well without him having to say it.
But understanding it was one thing, and facing the current situation was another. To be honest, his heart was still a little uneasy.
After a moment of hesitation, Liu Buli finally pursed his lips and nodded.
As the ghost led them towards their destination, Liu Buli gave a wry smile and asked, "Whether it's the deadlands you speak of, or the ghost city where we are now, since there is no light in either place, how do you usually distinguish the boundaries?"
"The area enclosed by walls is the city, and everything outside the walls is the deadlands," the ghost replied quickly. "The monsters in the deadlands seem to understand this rule. Although they are absolutely merciless when they attack once you're outside the walls, there's never been a case of monsters actively entering the city. This should be considered an unwritten rule among all beings here."
As he explained, he led the group towards the wall he mentioned. Before long, they reached the foot of the towering wall.
The ghost stopped and said, "Beyond this point is the deadlands. I won't accompany you further. Be careful, and if you find yourselves unable to fight, retreat towards the city walls. As long as you cross the walls, you will be safe."
Liu Buli, unable to see, could only use his spiritual energy to sense the wall before him. As he had imagined, the wall was covered in a thick layer of ghost energy. Although he didn't know who had set up this energy, perhaps it was the presence of these energies that had turned the inside and outside of the city into such completely different worlds.
With that thought, Liu Buli nodded gently at the ghost, took a deep breath, and reached out towards the wall. Just as he had sensed with his spiritual energy, not far in front of them was a heavy iron gate.
As the iron gate was pushed open, a chilling wind blew out from its seams, seeming even more intense than the wind they had faced upon entering the ghost realm. It wasn't just the coldness or the force of the wind. Liu Buli even felt, perhaps mistakenly, that he could hear a hoarse, wailing sound within the wind, an utterly unpleasant noise.
His thought was confirmed in the next second.
The ghost did not rush to leave. Instead, upon hearing the sound, he explained, "That's the cry of those monsters. Does it sound a little terrifying?"
It wasn't exactly terrifying.
It was more like a bugle call that could awaken all the deepest negative emotions in one's heart. Just hearing it made one feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Liu Buli thought this to himself, but when faced with the ghost's question, he simply shook his head and offered no response.
Without further ado, he pulled Lu Wuming and walked out of the city gate. You Siqi, holding the kitten, followed behind them. As he had said earlier, the kitten would guide him, so there was no need to worry about him getting lost.
After the group left the ghost city, the ghost behind them closed the heavy iron gate.
Liu Buli saw nothing wrong with his actions. After all, the ghost also feared the monsters outside the walls. Closing the gate was partly to prevent the monsters from seizing the opportunity to enter the city, and partly to pretend that nothing had happened, so that the ghosts inside the city would not notice anything unusual. It was also a way of covering for Liu Buli and the others, so there was nothing improper about it.
With this in mind, Liu Buli finally let out a sigh of relief as the gate closed completely. He raised his hand and used his spiritual energy to light a lamp, illuminating the surrounding darkness.
In the firelight, he looked at Lu Wuming beside him. With a bitter smile, he said, "Wuming, I regret it. If I really have to live here in the future, you must keep your promise and get me a sun."
