Chapter 1291 What Was He Doing Carrying You On His Back

Recently, Zhan Mohan has been trying to conceal his visits to Old Master Zhan from Wei Yumeng, which has made her suspicious.

One day, Zhan Mohan planned to leave early again.

“Mohan, are you going to the company so early again today?” Wei Yumeng asked tentatively. Although she didn't want to think the worst, she couldn't help but overthink.

She had recently been watching a TV series where the husband cheated on his pregnant wife. Although the wife eventually triumphed, the ordeal was significant.

Zhan Mohan, oblivious to Wei Yumeng's unease, simply replied, "Yes, but don't worry, I'll try to come back as early as possible tonight." He then gave her a light kiss on the forehead and left.

Wei Yumeng watched Zhan Mohan’s retreating figure, her heart aching. While she trusted his character and their bond, his recent behavior was too strange, forcing her to consider the worst.

Once in his car, Zhan Mohan decided to call Mu Linjing.

"Hello? This is Zhan Mohan."

Mu Linjing was surprised to hear his voice but quickly guessed why he was calling.

"Brother, I'm almost done with my work here. I'm planning to visit Yumeng soon, so you can rest assured."

Zhan Mohan let out a sigh of relief. "Then I'll have to trouble you during this time."

Mu Linjing had returned with Zhan Yichen from abroad, but for some reason, she hadn't yet visited Wei Yumeng. Zhan Mohan knew he had neglected Wei Yumeng due to Old Master Zhan's condition and wished he could spend more time with her. He thought that having Mu Linjing accompany Wei Yumeng for a while would suffice until the Old Master stabilized.

After Zhan Mohan left, Wei Yumeng couldn't shake off her anxiety. Although the housekeeper and servants advised her to rest, her mind conjured disturbing images whenever she closed her eyes: Zhan Mohan being intimate with his secretary, or engaging in close contact with a distinguished female business partner. Her emotions were becoming increasingly chaotic, almost beyond her control.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Wei Yumeng was surprised, as Master Ren had gone to Old Master Zhan's, so she didn't expect anyone at this hour. However, when she opened the door, she was delighted by who she saw.

"Linjing! You're back? When did you return?"

Mu Linjing gave her a big hug. "I've actually been back for a few days, but I was busy with some matters and didn't have time to visit you. I came as soon as I was free."

Wei Yumeng was genuinely happy; with Mu Linjing back, she would have someone to keep her company.

"But you don't look well. You're pregnant, why aren't you taking better care of yourself?"

Hearing this, Wei Yumeng immediately touched her face. Did she look that bad? She hadn't felt any different.

"Do I really look that bad?"

Mu Linjing nodded seriously. "Yes, you look so troubled. Has something been upsetting you?"

Wei Yumeng sighed. "I suppose so, but I also think I might be overthinking things."

"Why don't you tell me, and I can help you think it through?"

As they spoke, they walked into the living room. Seeing Wei Yumeng about to fetch water for her, Mu Linjing quickly stopped her. "My dear lady, don't forget your condition. I can do this." She took the cup from Wei Yumeng, skillfully poured two cups of hot water, one for Wei Yumeng.

Wei Yumeng accepted the cup, feeling a little embarrassed. She was the hostess, and Mu Linjing the guest, yet Mu Linjing was attending to her.

"Alright, continue. What have you been worrying about?" Mu Linjing picked up their conversation.

Wei Yumeng sighed. "I feel like Mohan has been acting strangely lately. He leaves for work earlier and returns later. Usually, he would tell me what he'd been doing, but this time, he just said he had some matters to attend to, without elaborating."

Mu Linjing understood. Zhan Mohan's behavior was likely causing Wei Yumeng anxiety, especially during pregnancy when women tend to overthink.

"So, you think he's doing something behind your back?"

Wei Yumeng nodded, then immediately shook her head. "I don't know. I know he might be hiding something from me, but I don't know what it is. I feel he must have his reasons for not telling me, but..." She tightened her grip on her dress, her nervousness evident to Mu Linjing.

Mu Linjing looked at Wei Yumeng, sensing her unease. She was aware of Old Master Zhan's situation and had even contacted Ren Yang before coming, as he had been managing Wei Yumeng's nutrition. From Ren Yang, she had learned a lot about Wei Yumeng's condition. Ren Yang had mentioned that although Wei Yumeng had managed to recover her strength, maintaining it would depend on her continued efforts. Any shock or distress during this period could undo all their hard work, which was precisely why Zhan Mohan was keeping Old Master Zhan's condition a secret. He likely feared that if Wei Yumeng knew, her emotional state would fluctuate, affecting her health.

Mu Linjing took Wei Yumeng's hand. "Yumeng, don't overthink it. Yichen and I just returned, and there are many things to hand over to Brother. Even Yichen has been incredibly busy and hasn't had time for anything else."

"Really?" Wei Yumeng was still skeptical, not because she thought Mu Linjing was lying, but because if things were that simple, Zhan Mohan wouldn't have kept it from her. However, she considered Mu Linjing's words. The black market incident had been complicated, and Zhan Yichen had finally stabilized the overseas branches of the Zhan Corporation. His return meant many tasks awaited him.

"Come on, instead of dwelling on these thoughts, why don't you tell me about what happened after you returned from the black market? I heard Brother almost..." Mu Linjing covered her mouth, fearing she might bring up unpleasant memories for Wei Yumeng. However, Wei Yumeng no longer minded and proceeded to tell Mu Linjing everything that had happened then.
