"Mom, I'll handle this myself. The most important thing right now is Grandpa."
Zhan Mohan frowned, looking with a heavy expression at the still illuminated operating room lights.
Just then, Feng Shiyin also arrived.
"Auntie, Brother Mohan, how is Grandpa?"
If Wen Yulan had heard Zhan Mohan agree to divorce Wei Yumeng earlier, she might not have been so agitated. If Zhan Mohan didn't give them a clear answer, her heart would remain suspended, unable to settle.
She had many reservations about Wei Yumeng. "What else can be said? Your grandfather is still in there, his life hanging in the balance, all thanks to this Wei Yumeng. If it weren't for her and that Xin Ran, would your grandfather be like this?"
Feng Shiyin looked at the pale Wei Yumeng with confusion.
"What happened between her and Xin Ran?"
"It's too embarrassing to even say. She and that Xin Ran did that sort of thing, and your Brother Mohan caught them red-handed. This matter has already spread, and who knows what people outside are saying about us now."
Feng Shiyin's eyes widened in disbelief, and she covered her mouth in shock.
"She... how could she do something like that? Brother Mohan treated her so well, how could she betray him like this?"
Wen Yulan then shot Wei Yumeng another sidelong glance and said sarcastically,
"Isn't that the truth? I don't know how your grandfather picked such a woman for our family in the first place. She even bewitched your Brother Mohan, and even now, he's still unwilling to divorce her!"
Feng Shiyin's heart trembled, and she looked at the grim-faced Zhan Mohan in shock.
Her lips trembled as she asked him, "Brother Mohan, are you... are you really not going to divorce her? She's already done something so hurtful to you. Even if you don't care about yourself, you should at least consider the reputation of the Zhan family. Now that this has come out, it won't be easily forgotten. The media will keep fanning the flames. If you don't divorce her, do you know what people will say about you outside?"
The heir of the Zhan family was actually tolerating his wife cuckolding him. It would be a laughingstock if this got out.
She had thought that given the circumstances, with Brother Mohan's personality, he would immediately divorce Wei Yumeng. This was his resolute and decisive style.
What did he mean now? Was he going to swallow this insult?
Feng Shiyin could hardly believe it. Was this still the Brother Mohan she knew? He never wavered when it came to compromising his principles, and his decisions left no room for retreat.
Because he knew that leaving any room for retreat was leaving an opportunity for regret.
Zhan Mohan frowned, his lips tight. "Feng Shiyin, this is not the time to talk about my affairs. Grandpa is still in there."
"Yes, I know Grandpa is still in there, his life uncertain, and we are all very worried. But Brother Mohan, don't you know why Grandpa is in there?" Feng Shiyin pointed at Wei Yumeng, who was standing not far away, and suddenly raised her voice. "It's all because of her, all because of this woman named Wei Yumeng. She betrayed you, did something unforgivable with Xin Ran, and caused Grandpa's severe illness. She's pushed our Zhan family into the spotlight. Even now, are you still protecting her?"
This was not the Brother Mohan she knew. What had happened to him? Why had he become so soft-hearted and indecisive? Or, was he still deeply reluctant to part with Wei Yumeng?
For the sake of Wei Yumeng, was he now disregarding the Zhan family?
Wen Yulan chimed in from the side, "Yes, Mohan, Shiyin is right. Even if you don't divorce her, you won't be able to get past Grandpa. You know his temperament and character best. Grandpa is incorruptible and cannot tolerate any filth."
Zhan Mohan knew very well that as soon as Grandpa was out of danger, the first thing he would do was to make him divorce Wei Yumeng. And Wei Yumeng insisted she hadn't betrayed him.
Even if she truly hadn't, she would need to provide evidence.
His gaze was deep and inscrutable, making it impossible to guess what he was thinking. He simply said,
"I will not cover for Wei Yumeng in this matter, nor will I let the Zhan family fall into public opinion. Since she has done this, she must be responsible for her actions. When Grandpa wakes up, I will naturally give him a satisfactory explanation."
Wei Yumeng looked up in surprise, her heart sinking. From his words, it seemed he would divorce her. No matter how she explained, it was useless?
Or, had Zhan Mohan never intended to believe her from the beginning?
Wen Yulan was furious at the sight of Wei Yumeng and raised her hand to slap her.
"It's all your fault, you jinx!"
Facing the sudden slap, Wei Yumeng had no chance to dodge. She closed her eyes in despair, waiting for the pain to come. The sound of the slap arrived as expected, but she felt no pain.
Wei Yumeng was stunned. When she opened her eyes, she saw a tall figure in front of her and the shocked expressions of Wen Yulan and the others.
Feng Shiyin couldn't help but cry out, "Brother Mohan, are you alright?"
Wen Yulan's hand was still frozen in mid-air, her palm tingling from the force of the blow. She had never expected Zhan Mohan to take the slap for Wei Yumeng.
Her brow furrowed, and her gaze was stern.
"Mohan, you're spoiling her too much!"
"Mom, if you had landed that slap, and the media outside had caught it, people would think our Zhan family was bullying her. It would sound even worse."
Zhan Mohan didn't dwell on Wen Yulan's attempted slap. With rumors spreading everywhere, it was more important for the family to be united. If he clashed with Wen Yulan now, it would be of no benefit to the situation.
This was originally Wei Yumeng's mess, and at least for now, he was still her husband. He bore some responsibility.
Letting Wen Yulan slap him would at least appease her anger and might lead her to say fewer things in front of Grandpa later.
Wen Yulan indeed didn't say anything further. Growing up, she had never hit Zhan Mohan, partly because it was difficult, and partly because she didn't dare. She never thought that today she would hit him because of an outsider like Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng bit her lip tightly, a wave of guilt washing over her. She stepped forward.
"Are... are you alright? Let me get you medicine."
As she spoke, she reached out to grab his wrist and was about to pull him away. Zhan Mohan remained rooted to the spot, unmoving.
She turned back in confusion. The man shook off her hand, his features stern.
"No need."
Wei Yumeng looked at her empty hand with a complicated expression, feeling awkward. Zhan Mohan must be angry with her.
At that moment, the operating room lights went out, and the doctor emerged. Zhan Mohan quickly stepped forward and asked anxiously,
"Doctor, how is my grandfather?"
