"Wei Yumeng, I advise you to not push your luck. Watch your attitude!"
Zhan Mohan warned coldly, his face grim.
Wei Yumeng held back tears, feeling deeply wronged. How she wished someone was by her side to listen to her complaints.
She would rather Zhan Mohan not be around her, then she wouldn't be reminded that her child died because of him.
But now, she was nothing but a mother who had lost her child. Couldn't she even have these emotions?
"If you think my attitude is bad, you can ask Old Master Zhan to agree to our divorce, then you..."
Before she could finish speaking, she caught Zhan Mohan's murderous gaze and was so frightened that her heart pounded. The words caught in her throat, turning back, and she dared not utter them.
Zhan Mohan suddenly leaned close to Wei Yumeng, his voice even colder than a winter wind, each word seeming capable of tearing through her flesh and piercing her bones.
"I've told you, unless I want to end it, you'll never escape my grasp. Don't forget, you're here to atone for your sins, or you can stay in the hospital forever caring for my brother. You can leave when he wakes up."
Wei Yumeng shuddered at the thought of spending her entire life in a hospital, tending to a vegetative state, unable to do anything. How terrifying that would be.
If someone had to go, it should be Wei Jin.
If it weren't for her reckless driving back then, such a disaster wouldn't have happened, and she wouldn't have ruined her lifelong happiness with the Zhan family.
Fang Xun, carrying food, had just reached the hospital room door when he sensed something was wrong. His wife's eyes were red, filled with resentment and a defiant gaze towards Mr. Zhan. Mr. Zhan's face was cold, as if he could devour someone, his aura sharper than usual.
He was incredibly curious about what his wife had said to make Mr. Zhan so furious.
Zhan Mohan had already noticed Fang Xun. He swept a cold glance his way.
"What are you doing standing at the door? Come in!"
"Oh, alright."
Fang Xun walked in and placed the food on the table.
"Madam, Mr. Zhan asked me to buy some food. You must be hungry, so please eat something."
"I don't want to!"
What was he trying to do now? He had just angrily hit her child, and now he was asking Fang Xun to buy her food. How hypocritical!
Fang Xun cautiously glanced at Zhan Mohan, who nodded towards Wei Yumeng and suddenly said.
"Fang Xun, I don't care what method you use, but you must make her eat. Otherwise, don't bother following me tomorrow!"
Fang Xun's eyes widened. He hadn't expected to be dragged into this so innocently.
"Mr. Zhan, I..."
Wei Yumeng found Zhan Mohan's methods utterly appalling.
"It's my business if I don't eat. It has nothing to do with Fang Xun. Don't implicate innocent people."
"If you ruin your health, and there's no one to atone, our Zhan family might not find peace."
Zhan Mohan's expression remained unreadable, his lips tightly pressed, showing his displeasure.
Wei Yumeng's face turned ashen. She clenched the quilt tightly, wishing she could tear it apart like she wanted to tear Zhan Mohan apart. This man truly stopped at nothing to achieve his goals.
She turned her face away and snorted.
"Mr. Zhan, rest assured, I have already lost my child. If I lose myself as well, it might fulfill certain people's wishes."
Besides, she didn't want Fang Xun to suffer because of her. Among the entire Zhan family, only Fang Xun had always spoken to her politely. She had a good impression of him.
Seeing that Wei Yumeng was showing signs of eating, Fang Xun quickly handed her the food.
"Madam, please don't be angry. Your health is important. If you want another child in the future, talk to Mr. Zhan properly. He will agree."
Wei Yumeng took the food box and said with extreme disdain.
"I will never have a child with a cold-blooded person in this lifetime!"
If she had to bear a child for Zhan Mohan, she would rather never be a mother.
Zhan Mohan was not someone who could be easily provoked. Hearing Wei Yumeng's disdain, he sneered.
"Whether you have children or not is not up to you!"
If he truly wanted a child, it wouldn't be up to her to refuse.
Wei Yumeng couldn't be bothered to argue with him anymore; it was just asking for trouble.
She held the food box and turned away, not even wanting to look at him.
Zhan Mohan scoffed. She was putting on airs with him.
He moved his wheelchair out, and Fang Xun, seeing that Wei Yumeng was already eating, followed Zhan Mohan out.
Fang Xun had witnessed their argument and suggested.
"Actually, Mr. Zhan, I think you could tell Madam the truth. Perhaps your relationship could ease."
Zhan Mohan was a proud man. After being so despised by her, going back to tell her the truth now? He must be out of his mind.
Just a woman, he couldn't handle her?
"No need!" Zhan Mohan glanced back. "Go in and keep an eye on her. Don't let her pour the food away."
"Yes."
Wei Yumeng wasn't hungry at all, but she had no choice. With Fang Xun watching, if she didn't finish, Zhan Mohan would trouble him later.
This was probably the first meal in a long time that tasted like cardboard to her.
Fang Xun watched Wei Yumeng's shoulders tremble and couldn't help but add a few more words.
"Madam, Mr. Zhan is truly doing this for your own good. You should know that the child in your womb couldn't be saved. Even if Mr. Zhan let you give birth, it might not have been healthy."
"Even so, you don't need to speak for him. I saw what kind of person he is long ago."
He wouldn't allow anyone to challenge his authority. If even one person did, he would immediately make an example of them, no matter the cost, so they would learn their lesson from this incident.
This tactic always worked.
Just like now, no matter how much resentment she held in her heart, she wouldn't dare provoke him again.
Fang Xun drooped his shoulders in helplessness. It was over; these two would never reconcile.
After Wei Yumeng finished her meal, the doctor came to check on her and instructed her to take good care of herself so she could conceive again. Otherwise, whether she could conceive in the future was unknown.
Of course, these were words that Zhan Mohan had instructed the doctor to say. Otherwise, given the woman's temperament, she would likely cause trouble for days.
Once she recovered, he would deal with her slowly. He wasn't afraid of her prickly nature; it could always be smoothed out.
Wei Yumeng listened to the doctor's words and indeed went straight upstairs after returning.
Wen Yulan, having been through it all, saw Wei Yumeng still in a hospital gown and looking pale. She called out to Zhan Mohan.
"Ahan, come here for a moment."
On the surface, Zhan Mohan was quite respectful to Wen Yulan. To outsiders, they appeared like a mother and son.
Zhan Mohan stopped. "Mom, what is it?"
"Didn't you and Yumeng go to the banquet? Why is she wearing hospital clothes?"
Zhan Mohan's eyes shot up suddenly. His face darkened, and his voice carried a chilling coldness that startled Wen Yulan.
"Isn't this the result you've long anticipated?"
Wen Yulan's suspicions were confirmed. She gave an awkward smile.
"Ahan, don't blame Mom. I'm doing this for your own good. If she kept that bastard in her womb and delayed things, it would have affected you sooner or later."
"Mom, that child was an innocent life. Since it's gone now, please don't call it a bastard. It tarnishes your title as Madam of the Zhan family."
Wen Yulan found it strange. When Wei Yumeng was pregnant, Zhan Mohan hadn't protected her so much. How could he be speaking up for them now that the child was gone?
On the surface, she didn't reveal too much, framing her words as being for Zhan Mohan's benefit.
"Ahan, don't blame Mom. I'm doing this for your own good. You are the hope of our Zhan family. Look at your brother; he's off somewhere being wild again these past few days. If you have a chance, you should guide him more in work matters."
Zhan Mohan neither refused nor agreed, parrying with Wen Yulan.
"Mom, Yichen is doing fine at the company. Grandfather said that even siblings must follow the rules."
Wen Yulan's smile froze. "Ahan, Grandfather is old-fashioned. You are reasonable, perhaps you could..."
