Jimmy drove away from Oakville, randomly stopping along the way to strip down his original clothes and shoes and dispose of them in different trash bins. In fact, the best way to handle it would have been to find a deserted area and burn the clothes, but he had neither a gasoline drum nor familiarity with the surrounding area; in the end, he had no choice but to find secluded places to separately dispose of each part.
Dressed in the gang leader's clothes, Jimmy returned to the hotel with a bag. It was very late, and after resting for the night, he got up the next morning and packed the leader's clothes in a bag, preparing to destroy them when he stepped out.
The bundle of plunder Jimmy had scavenged was not something he planned to keep on him. He directly went to a warehouse he had previously visited, swiped his card to rent a unit not far from the gang leader's own warehouse for a quarter. It wasn't that Jimmy was reluctant to spend more money for a longer lease, but because his original plan was to transfer the contents of the leader's warehouse to his own during a time when no one would notice, and then gradually take it back to Bartlett over the weekends.
Since he did not plan to visit Memphis often, it made no sense to spend money on a longer rental period. Three months was enough time for him to transfer everything.
Jimmy opened his warehouse, placed the bag inside, then took out the gang leader's key and found a key of the same type as his warehouse key. He walked over to that unit and opened the rolling shutter door.
After a glance at the warehouse, Jimmy entered and pulled the rolling shutter halfway down. He flipped the switch on the wall, and the light illuminated the whole warehouse, fully revealing it to Jimmy.
The first things to catch his eye were the double-layer shelves on both sides of the wall. On the left were several backpacks and two suitcases; on the right, a few handguns, boxes of bullets, and several black briefcases. Next to each shelf was a table without drawers: on the left table were some small boxes, and below it a wooden crate about 50 centimeters wide; on the right table, there was a laptop and a pen.
Jimmy first opened the boxes on the left table, which contained miscellaneous small items like watches and jewelry. Jimmy didn't know much about these things and couldn't tell whether they were valuable. Below, the wooden crate contained cash—albeit in old banknotes.
He opened the two suitcases to find neatly folded clothes, each suitcase holding clothes suited for different seasons. It seemed the gang leader had planned his escape routes and stored them in this warehouse.
The briefcases on the right were locked and Jimmy couldn't open them at the moment. He then opened the laptop on the desk and saw it was filled with symbols and numbers, which were meaningless to him.
Jimmy hadn't anticipated that this sizable warehouse would contain only these items. Initially, he expected to make multiple trips, but now it seemed just a few would suffice to transfer everything to his own warehouse.
Jimmy pulled up the rolling door and checked outside; no one was around, and he had already checked that there were no cameras—Jimmy took the opportunity to get to work.
After much effort, Jimmy finally moved all the boxes and bags, leaving only the shelves, tables, and items of no value—the room was now empty.
Jimmy rested for a bit, then took the laptop and left the warehouse. After locking the door, Jimmy didn't go to pick up Mary; instead, he returned to the hotel to rest.
That night, Jimmy entered Mia's bar carrying a messenger bag. He directly approached Mia, indicating he needed a quiet place, and Mia led him to the lounge.
Jimmy, "Mia, I've mostly finished my business here. Now, I was wondering if you could contact the informant we talked about earlier. I got an encrypted laptop from the gang boss, and I'd like to see if he's interested."
Mia, "I need to take a look at it first."
Jimmy took out the laptop from his bag, showed Mia the first few pages, then packed it away again.
Mia, "I understand. Wait here for a moment."
Mia went to make a call, and Jimmy sat on the long bench to rest. Half an hour later, the man with sunglasses arrived.
The man with sunglasses sat down not far from Jimmy, placed the briefcase on the chair, and then spoke.
The man with sunglasses, "Let me see the laptop first."
Jimmy didn't alert Joe; he simply took out the laptop from the bag and handed it over. The man with sunglasses flipped through a few pages at the front and back, then returned it to Jimmy.
The man with sunglasses, "It has some value. The content inside needs to be decrypted to know what it is, but I guess it's their list of operations or client list. How do you want to trade?"
Jimmy, "One Gold Coin, and also help sort out the issue at Kevin Hogan's place so Mary can return home safely."
The man with sunglasses shook his head, "No, you're asking too much. The notebook is not worth that much. As a trade, I can handle the aftermath to allow Mary to return to her normal life."
Jimmy: "Kevin Hogan should already be dead, and we need your help to get Mary what she rightfully deserves. Of course, I'm referring to the normal inheritance of Kevin's estate."
The man in sunglasses thought for a moment and finally agreed.
Jimmy handed the notebook back to the man in sunglasses.
"How long will you probably need, and when should I bring Mary back?"
"You can take me there, and I will take Mary away directly and handle the follow-up matters."
Jimmy extended his right hand and shook hands with the man in sunglasses, holding onto the man's hand without letting go, "It's a deal. You won't break the rules, right?"
The man in sunglasses, "Of course, rules are rules. Since we've reached an agreement, we will handle it properly."
Jimmy let go of his hand, and the two men picked up their bags and left the lounge one after the other.
Jimmy greeted Mia at the bar, and the two left the bar. The man in sunglasses drove Jimmy first to his hotel, and Jimmy also got into his car and headed for the Bartlett safe house where Mary was hiding.
Without speaking, Jimmy and the man in sunglasses arrived outside the safe house in two cars. The safe house was lit up, and Jimmy got out of the car and walked to the door. He first used "Heart Eye" to look inside, saw only one figure, and knocked on the door, "Mary, it's me, open the door."
Mary was watching TV on the sofa; there wasn't much else for entertainment here, so she could only choose between watching TV or sleeping.
Hearing the knocking and the shout, Mary got up and went to the door. "Who is it outside?"
Jimmy, "It's me, Jimmy."
Mary reached out to undo the security chain, then opened the door, and Jimmy and the man in sunglasses entered the house.
Jimmy turned to close the door then said to Mary, "Get ready, he's going to take you away. Your family's case will be handled with his resources, and afterward, you can go home and live normally. Once everything settles down, you can inform Jerry to come find you."
Mary glanced at the man in sunglasses, wondering why he needed to wear sunglasses at night. Jimmy also found it odd, just unsure whether he took them off while driving.
Mary then turned back to Jimmy, "Uncle Jimmy, are you leaving?"
Jimmy, "Yes, I don't have much time left here; I must head back. Don't worry, everything has been arranged. You just need to follow their instructions. You no longer need to worry about the people who kidnapped you."
Maybe it was her precociousness, or perhaps the kidnapping had affected Mary, but she didn't have the many flaws of movie girls. She turned towards the man in sunglasses and shook his hand, "Thank you."
Jimmy said to the man in sunglasses, "I've explained everything. Everything is in your hands now."
This was the first time the man in sunglasses spoke since entering the house, "Mary, go pack your things. We need to leave here immediately."
Mary, "There's nothing to pack, let's go."
When Jimmy and Mary had come, they brought nothing with them. Mary's two days here were completely dependent on the supplies available, so there was no need to pack now.
Jimmy went to turn off the TV and lights, and the three of them left the safe house. Mary sat in the car with the man in sunglasses, and they left first. After following for a while, Jimmy also headed towards his booked hotel.
After resting for the night, Jimmy packed up, checked out from the hotel, and then drove back to Little Rock.
