Chapter 256: Prelude to a New Life

After the hanging basket landed, a witch who looked around thirty years old, with waist-length red hair, stepped out of the basket and came forward, "Hello, welcome to Border Town, I am Wendy." Then she looked at Ashes and smiled happily, "You're here too."

Is she the witch Ashes mentioned before? Sylvie thoughtfully sized up the two of them, it seemed they had known each other for a long time.

"Welcome, I'm Anna." The appearance of another witch made Sylvie's eyes light up. Those pure blue eyes, like a lake, were truly remarkable. However, what she was more concerned about was the other's vast and thick magic power, almost without any flaws. A block composed of black, white, and gray colors rotated slowly, even distorting the trajectory of the magic power gathered around it.

What amazing power! It was the first time Sylvie had seen such oppressive magic power.

"Hi, I'm Lightning!" The little girl who was originally flying next to the hanging basket was indeed her, and Maggie followed closely, landing on her shoulder.

"Coo!"

After Ashes briefly introduced the witches of Sleeping Island, Wendy smiled and invited everyone to board the hanging basket.

"The huge air sac above is called a hot air balloon. As long as it can provide scorching air, it can take everyone across the mountains and directly to the destination." She paused slightly and asked Ashes, "Are you really not going to take a look in town? I think His Highness must want to see you again."

"He wouldn't welcome someone who plans to dig up his witches," Ashes smiled, "I'll trouble you to take care of these children."

"Is that so..." Wendy seemed a little regretful and pursed her lips, "Don't worry, I will treat them well."

"Then everyone hold on tight," Anna reminded, "The Remote Viewing is about to take off."

Sylvie only felt a slight jolt under her feet, and the hanging basket had already left the ground. She leaned out and saw Ashes and Moriel waving to them. As the hot air balloon rose continuously, the scenery on the ground shrank smaller and smaller, and the two soon turned into nail-sized spots. In any case, a new life was about to begin.

Wendy's ability seemed to be wind control. Under her manipulation, the hot air balloon moved towards the inland direction of Graycastle.

It was the first time Sylvie had overlooked the earth from the air. Although the earth and rocks could not prevent her exploration, it was still a novel experience to take such a large range of vision into her eyes at once. She tried to summon the Eye of Magic, but unexpectedly, chaotic scenes poured into her mind like a tide: the steep rock walls hidden in the depths of the sea, the underground rivers connected to the sea, the animal bones buried in the soil, and the changes in the underground rock layers... These scenes immediately made Sylvie feel a splitting headache, and the magic power in her body dropped sharply. She quickly interrupted the Eye of Magic and sat on the side of the hanging basket, gasping for breath.

"Are you okay?" someone asked. She opened her eyes and found that the other person was Wendy.

"Yes, just a little... dizzy."

"Taking a few deep breaths will help," Wendy smiled, "Many people feel uncomfortable the first time they leave the earth."

"Thank you, I feel better," Sylvie nodded.

The atmosphere along the way was much more harmonious than she had initially imagined. Just like Ashes said, Wendy was full of care for everyone and would not treat them differently because they were newcomers. Although Anna didn't talk much, she would still answer seriously if someone asked her questions. Lightning seemed to be very close to Maggie and was also very lively. From time to time, she would fly into the hanging basket with the fat pigeon and chat with everyone, not treating herself as a stranger at all.

With Maggie as the link between the two sides, the other four gradually relaxed and asked Lightning about the situation in Border Town. Later, the little girl simply hovered next to the hanging basket and told everyone stories about the town fighting against evil beasts and invaders, as well as the incredible inventions of His Highness the Prince, which made everyone dumbfounded.

Before long, the hot air balloon arrived above the castle.

Judging from the size alone, this town was indeed worthy of the word "border", being both small and remote, and its scale was not even one-third of that of Sleeping Island. However, there were many townspeople. Whether in the central square, outside the city walls, or on the riverbank, groups of people could be seen everywhere. They were walking back and forth, gathering into streams.

The hot air balloon landed directly in the castle courtyard. As soon as she stepped out of the hanging basket, a series of roars suddenly sounded, and Sylvie, caught off guard, was startled and froze in place for a moment. The other four were not much better off. Honey even flipped back into the basket, revealing half of her head and asking, "What's going on?"

Wendy couldn't help but laugh, "Don't worry, His Highness is playing the salute to welcome your arrival."

Walking through the green corridor and into the castle hall, Sylvie finally saw Tilly's brother. He was sitting on the main seat in the hall, and his appearance was somewhat similar to that of the Fifth Princess, with the same gray hair. He didn't have any extra ornaments on his body, and his expression seemed relaxed and natural. Although his face was not as pleasing as Lady Tilly's, he had a calm temperament that could attract everyone's attention just by sitting there.

"Welcome to Border Town, I am the Lord of the Western Territory, Roland Wimbledon. I believe you already know my name." He stood up and smiled, "Tilly Wimbledon is my sister, so you don't need to feel restrained. Just treat the town as Sleeping Island."

Sylvie couldn't help but unleash the Eye of Magic, and then she couldn't help but be startled.

The expected darkness did not appear. He was not wearing a God's Punishment Stone, and there were no traces of magical activity on his body. He was exactly what he was in the true vision. It was neither a disguise nor was he being controlled. This could only mean that the man in front of her was Roland himself.

And in the countermeasures that Lady Tilly had given her, there was only one sentence for the situation where no clues were found: Send the message back to Sleeping Island.

...

She didn't hear anything Roland said next, and her head was in a mess. In order to fulfill Lady Tilly's instructions, she had even thought about the words and expressions to use during the negotiation, and she had even prepared to be imprisoned, but she didn't expect it to be of no use at all. Next, she just had to wait until the end of the month for Maggie to bring the information back to complete the task.

But how is this possible? A real noble actually made up his mind to protect witches? And became the leader of the Co-assistance Society?

The psychological gap made Sylvie feel a little dazed until His Highness arranged her sleeping room for the night, and then she came back to her senses.

"The situation is roughly like this. The Witch Building has not yet been completed, so you can only temporarily live in the castle and share a room with other witches. Of course, this will also make it easier for you to quickly integrate into the life of the town." Roland said, "There will also be a sumptuous dinner waiting for everyone tonight as a formal welcome gift for everyone's arrival in Border Town. Enjoy it."

The room assignment relieved Sylvie. She was finally assigned to live with Wendy. From this brief contact, Wendy was indeed a good senior, and it should be relatively easy to get along with her. But besides her, there also seemed to be a witch named Nightingale living in the room.

I hope the other person is also easy to get along with, Sylvie couldn't help but think.
