Chapter 54 You Released the Ghosts

Chapter 难道,我再继续杀下去,最后这些鬼的能力会集中在一起,变成一个超级牛逼的,咱们俩联手也打不过的超级怪物?
"Could it be that if I continue killing, the abilities of these ghosts will combine, turning into a super awesome monster that even the two of us working together can't defeat?" Ding Kan voiced his concern.

I didn't speak, but my expression told Ding Kan that this was exactly what I was worried about. The current slaughter would not weaken the enemy's strength, but would instead help them devour and merge with each other, making their energy more concentrated.

We both frowned as we looked at the evil spirits outside. After Ding Kan stopped killing them, they began to attack the cabin again. Although the abacus bead formation could temporarily block them, most of the magic power on the abacus had been restricted. Only the magnetic field of the meteorite iron itself was left, and under the waves of attacks, it was slowly showing signs of being unable to withstand them.

"Ding Kan, what kind of kung fu did you learn?"

"Why should I tell you?"

"Don't you think we should cooperate more deeply? I don't know what kind of kung fu you practice, how can I build a barrier with you? We need to hurry up and take advantage of the time the abacus can still hold on to build the barrier. Once the cabin is broken, we'll really be feeding the ghosts."

Ding Kan's expression was a bit helpless: "It's not that I don't want to be honest with you, it's just that I'm afraid my heretical ways won't mesh with the kung fu of you righteous people."

I pointed to the ghosts outside: "It's come to this point, do you think I care about your heretical ways? Even if you told me that you're actually a ghost, I can only join forces with you. Besides, my methods aren't much the same as those of the orthodox sects anyway."

"Alright then."

We spent five minutes briefly understanding each other's internal energy cultivation methods, sparring a little, and then began to build the barrier together.

To be honest, this was actually quite risky. It required both of us to completely open up to each other, allowing the other's true qi to flow through our bodies. Only by being like one person could we use the integrated energy to build the barrier. If there was a disagreement between the two of us, or if someone suddenly had an inappropriate thought, it could lead to one or both of us being stuck here.

But if we didn't do this, we had no choice.

This was only the second time I had met Ding Kan. Our friendship and mutual trust really hadn't reached this level. Ding Kan was an especially cautious person. If he hadn't been truly forced into a corner, he wouldn't have opened himself up to cooperate with others.

Cooperation offered a glimmer of hope, without it, we would both be finished.

What followed was a half-hour of barrier construction. Both of us were sweating nervously. When the final barrier was built and blocked the ghosts outside, even Ding Kan sat down on the ground to catch his breath.

"Damn it, I'm exhausted, not just tired, but I'm also worried that this is your conspiracy, and you'll stab me in the back!" Ding Kan took off his top, wrung out the sweat, and put it back on.

I looked at the sweat he wrung out of his clothes and asked, "How long do you think we can last without food or drink?"

Ding Kan smiled bitterly, "Probably not long, I'm already thirsty. If we can't think of an effective solution, I estimate I can last for two days at most. If we still can't get out by then, I'll go out and fight them. Being bitten to death by ghosts is better than dying of thirst."

"You don't want to die of thirst?" I looked at Ding Kan with interest.

Ding Kan was a little confused by my gaze: "What do you mean? Do you like being thirsty? Then don't think of a solution, and you can die of thirst here smoothly. But don't think about making me accompany you. I'd rather rush out and be bitten to death by ghosts than die of thirst here."

"Then you can rush out and be bitten to death by ghosts now." I smiled and made a gesture of invitation towards the outside.

Ding Kan was already a little angry: "Wan Qian, what do you mean? Are you planning to give up struggling and wait to die here? If you've already given up struggling, why bother building a barrier? Just to learn what kind of evil arts I cultivate before you die?"

I snorted and said, "I'm afraid it's not me who's giving up struggling, but you. When you released that ghost, you had already prepared to die together with the ghosts. You weren't prepared to get out alive at all, right?"

Ding Kan gave me a disdainful look: "I've seen people talking nonsense, but I've never seen you talking such nonsense. I don't even know where those ghosts outside came from, and you're saying I released them? I'm such a person with a strong desire to live, and you're saying I want to die? Are you out of your mind?

If I wanted to die, why would I bother running away? I could have just stayed with Qin Tianming and been bitten to death by ghosts. Don't you think what you're saying is strange?"

"It's not strange, people are inherently contradictory." I said seriously, "You had already decided to die with them, but survival is a human instinct. It was under the drive of instinct that you ran here with me. Your instinct made you rush out desperately, made you risk cooperating with me to build a barrier. But you can't get past the hurdle in your own heart, you feel that you killed so many people and don't deserve to live in this world anymore. So you resolutely refuse to tell the method to subdue those ghosts, because if you escape, you will never be able to forgive yourself. You will never be able to forget this massacre."

"Bullshit!" Ding Kan suddenly roared, "Do you think you're very smart? Do you think you can guess everything right? You don't know shit! You're talking nonsense, why should I feel guilty? They were the ones who stood by and watched, they were the ones who killed my whole family. It's only natural and right for me to kill them. They owe me, they owe my family their lives, they have to pay with their lives."

Ding Kan roared all of this out in one breath, and then his whole body seemed to be drained of energy. He lay flat on the ground. I even saw tears streaming down the corners of his eyes.

I knew he was a person with a story, but I didn't expect that what was buried in his heart was such a huge hatred.

"Tell me your story, anyway, you don't plan to live anymore, and I'm unlucky enough to be buried with you. Before you die, you should at least give me a story to listen to, right?" I also relaxed myself, crossed my arms, and lay down next to him.

Don't have any inappropriate thoughts, we're both men, and we're lying down because we don't have much energy left, and this small wooden house only has the ground to lie on.

"Wan Qian, you shouldn't have come, you really shouldn't have come."
