Chapter 112: Chapter 112 The Fish-Fish Fruit Really Isn’t Afraid of Water—Time to Bail

When the sea and the two islands’ shaking gradually settled back into calm,

Karl’s figure blinked to a halt a few hundred meters over the ocean, Observation Haki sweeping as if searching.

Without a doubt, that Raigō of his proved the Rumble-Rumble Fruit sits atop the Logias, and even among all three Devil Fruit classes, it’s one of the few truly broken powers.

If Raigō didn’t require ultra-wide thunderclouds and count as a special-condition ultimate,

it could stand as Karl’s single strongest trump card all by itself.

Even with the difficult conditions, it still ranks among his top trumps—second only to the Light Spear from the Mysterious Spear, whose theoretical power also has no cap.

But once the Light Spear is unleashed at full force, Karl must make it a one-shot kill, or he’ll hit a period of weakness.

Raigō isn’t like that: as long as massive storm clouds exist, Karl can use the Rumble-Rumble Fruit to gather them into a black sphere of cloud, then pour lightning into it—burning two or three tenths of his stamina to push it to island-erasing class.

In consumption, Raigō is lighter.

In usability, the Light Spear is handier.

Each has its edge, and each its drawback.

"...As expected of the strongest creature on land, sea, and air. What a monster."

Karl’s Observation combed for minutes. Then, as if he sensed something, his expression shifted. "So there you are... The Fish-Fish Fruit really isn’t afraid of water!"

Zing—

Without a heartbeat of hesitation, Karl vanished from the sky.

A dozen blinks later he stood on Onigashima’s coast, then another blink put him beside Yamato on a high vantage point. "Yamato, I need to go."

"Karl, that was amazing!"

Yamato’s eyes shone as she stared at him, pure worship on her face. "That move just now was too strong—even the old man couldn’t resist it at all. From that far away, the whole island was shaking."

"Senior Kaido just ate a loss, that’s all."

Karl shook his head. "He’s about to come up out of the sea. Let’s move. Now."

"Okay, take me with you!"

The two-meter-six Yamato dove straight at him.

Arms looped around his neck, she gave a little hop, and Karl ended up with a full princess carry.

Zing—

Holding her, Karl didn’t linger to appreciate that very substantial figure; he vanished with a Soru from a standstill.

Because he was carrying Yamato, he couldn’t turn into current and shuttle the electric field.

He could only use a Razor infused with the Rumble-Rumble Fruit—a Lightning Shunshin version of the Navy’s Six Powers—to fly toward the Wano side at a speed just beneath true electric-field teleportation.

Not long after Karl left, the calmed sea suddenly heaved again.

"Roar... damn brat... where is he?!"

A hundreds-meter azure dragon burst up from the depths and loosed a sky-shaking bellow laden with gale force.

Just as he readied a torrent of curses, the great dragon’s face froze.

Overhead, there was no trace of Karl.

Even when he spread his Observation, there were no signatures for Karl or Yamato.

When he especially realized the latter had vanished, Kaido roared again in fury: "Damn brat—not only did you run, you took Yamato with you!!!"

For a while, the massive dragon raged uselessly over the sea.

Look close, and you’d see the great dragon wasn’t in good shape either.

Raigō’s nature is little different from a nuclear blast.

Once it detonates, everything in its embrace is reduced to dust.

The staggering airflow in that black sphere becomes a Dragon Twister-level cutter that shreds all; the current and thermal energy burn everything, bathing it in annihilating radiant heat.

Even without Haki woven in, Karl’s Raigō broke through Kaido’s defense.

Across those hundreds of meters of dragon flesh, great and small rents torn by the gale stood out, along with patches of burns seared in by the radiation of heat.

They weren’t as lethal as the scar Kozuki Oden left,

but if Kaido returned to human form now, his body would be crisscrossed with slashes and burns.

Ten-odd years ago, the damage would have been far worse.

But today—at the peak of his three Hakis and his fruit—being left so battered by Karl was the gravest humiliation.

Because...

he hadn’t marked Karl even once, and he himself was covered in wounds.

The injuries would sleep off in time and leave no scar like Oden’s,

but Kaido still seethed.

After the rage, the man who acts on emotion yet keeps a kernel of reason cooled down quickly.

He finally realized how foolish it had been to invite Karl to fight in the sky.

That guy’s elementalization is honed to perfection, no less than that Navy yellow monkey.

You shouldn’t take an enormous azure dragon form against him.

And fighting at that altitude so close to the cloud deck gave a Rumble-Rumble user the same absolute terrain advantage as the Ice-Ice on a glacier or the Magma-Magma at a volcano.

That colossal black sphere was an ultimate Karl forged from thunderclouds,

and those clouds were conjured by the two of them together.

Telling himself that,

Kaido’s mood eased a fraction.

But the fact that the other man had run off with Yamato sent the flames roaring again.

And yet...

"—sniff... sob, sob..."

This time, instead of roaring uselessly, Kaido clung to his dragon form in the high air and bawled, "My dumb son has grown up... finally leaving home... sob, sob..."

"That old man is so loud!"

Even at that distance, having landed in Wano, Yamato seemed to hear the crying and couldn’t help grumbling.

"Forget him. I’m going to pick someone up, then I’ll take you to sea," Karl said with a smile.

"Mhm, mhm...!"

Eyes bright, Yamato shouldered her kanabō and followed at Karl’s heels toward Amigasa Village.
