Chapter 4: A COLD REUNION
THREE MONTHS.
That was how long it took Wonyoung to regain his lost skills, such as walking, talking, and eating.
To be fair, I still recovered fast for how long I was in a coma.
It was all thanks to the group of elite doctors and medical staff members who helped him recover quickly.
He had also undergone physical, occupational, and even psychological therapy.
Plus, he’d been living comfortably all this time.
First, his VIP Room was like a luxury apartment.
Second, at least five staff members were in charge of taking care of his needs— including preparing his meals and giving him a bath (during the time he couldn’t move on his own yet).
Third, he didn’t have to worry about the hospital bill.
According to Han Myung, everything is put under Dujun Sunbae-nim’s tab.
That allowed Wonyoung to gather his thoughts in peace.
Yep, I’ve really returned as Bae Wonyoung.
But did it mean that his ’past life’ had been nothing but a fiction book in the real world?
Hmm.
To be honest, it didn’t really matter to him.
I mean, I have my free will. This is my life. Even if this world only exists inside a novel, the author should still stop acting like they know so much.
"Wonyoung-ssi, are you feeling comfortable?"
"Very comfortable," Wonyoung said while eating grapes on the bed. It was a hospital bed, but it was definitely bigger and softer than a normal hospital bed. "I think I can be discharged next week."
"Dominant Alphas and Dominant Omegas are really built different. I really didn’t get the doctor’s explanation since I’m a Beta. But, apparently, your pheromones are the reason why Alphas and Omegas are slightly stronger than average people," Han Myung, who was sitting on the chair next to the bed, said as if he were amazed. "I believe it since you recovered quickly even though you’ve been in a coma for five years, Wonyoung-ssi."
Yes, five years.
Shocking, right?
To be honest, Wonyoung was pretty shocked.
But since he couldn’t really remember his life with Yun Dujun before he fell into a coma, he felt distant from his contract husband and son
Out of sight, out of mind.
His personality was just like that.
Plus...
"Is Yujun Sunbae-nim really that busy to visit me?"
Yeah, no one had visited him since he woke up.
I’m not expecting my uncle and his family to care about me, but I kind of expected Yujun Sunbae-nim to show up here.
"The message from the main house remains the same whenever I ask for Yun Dujun-nim, Wonyoung-ssi," Han Myung explained. The ’main house’ would be Yun Dujun’s family. "Yun Dujun-nim is in a lock-in filming in Greece."
In ’lock-in tapings,’ artists and production staff are housed in one area for an extended period— usually for weeks or months— strictly prohibited from leaving the show’s "bubble" to ensure uninterrupted filming.
"Yun Dujun-nim’s new drama is a pre-production one, after all."
A pre-produced drama meant it was filmed entirely before its broadcast.
"And about Yun Dujun-nim’s family..."
"It’s alright. I know they don’t care about me," Wonyoung said, waving his hand dismissively. "But I need someone whom I can talk to regarding my finances."
Han Myung looked confused. "Your finances, sir?"
"I checked my bank account, and the money in it isn’t the amount I’m expecting. It’s too little compared to what Dujun Sunbae-nim had promised me."
When Wonyoung had regained full control of his body last week, he asked Han Myung for his phone. The bodyguard bought him a new one because his old one had, apparently, stopped working already.
Fortunately, he still remembered his bank details.
My memories before I met Dujun Sunbae-nim are clear.
"I’ll leave the hospital next week," Wonyoung said. "I need a lot of money by then."
To be fair, the money in his bank account was enough to last him at least two years even without working (if he lived frugally, of course).
But not enough to raise a child.
And, no— Wonyoung wasn’t talking about his biological son.
There’s someone else I want to raise in this lifetime.
"Then maybe I can ask the family accountant..." Han Myung paused when his phone rang. He checked who the caller was before lifting his head with a look of worry on his face. "Wonyoung-ssi, it’s Lee Heeju-nim."
Oh.
My love rival is here.
So, Lee Heeju was already a big part of Yun Dujun’s life at that point, huh?
"Answer it," Wonyoung said casually. "Let him know that I want to see him."
***
ARGH.
All this time, Wonyoung had been surrounded by Beta and Omega doctors.
So, meeting a strong Alpha shocked his system a bit.
Thank goodness I’m sitting on the bed.
Had Wonyoung been standing, his knees would have buckled because of Lee Heeju’s pheromones.
Yes, his ’love rival’ was now standing in front of him.
Slick back hair, expensive tailored suit, handsome face.
And ridiculously strong pheromones.
But Wonyoung didn’t like Lee Heeju’s scent even though it wasn’t bad.
It’s a woody scent... heavy... suffocating...
"I’m glad that you’re finally awake, Wonyoung-ah."
Aigoo.
Lee Heeju addressed Wonyoung casually, without honorifics, not because they were close, but because the Alpha was looking down on him.
Probably.
I know Lee Heeju is looking down on me even though his tone is friendly, but I can’t prove it.
"Welcome back."
"Thank you, Lee Heeju
Lee Heeju’s smile froze.
Well, I didn’t say anything wrong.
If Wonyoung remembered correctly, Yun Dujun and Lee Heeju were the same age.
I’m twenty-seven years old now, so that means Dujun Sunbae-nim is thirty-one.
To be fair, being in your early thirties was still young.
I just called Lee Heeju ’ahjussi’ on purpose as a little payback.
"Well, I suppose you can call me that," Lee Heeju said, smiling refreshingly again. "You’re younger than me and Dujunnie anyway."
’Dujunnie.’
It was so obvious that Lee Heeju was rubbing it in Wonyoung’s face that he had a close relationship with Yun Dujun.
"Thank you, Ahjussi."
"First of all, I apologize for only visiting now— I’ve been busy. But, to make it up to you, I brought someone I know you can’t wait to meet," Lee Heeju said, and then he turned to the door. "Come in, Yuhyun-ah."
Oh.
It was Yun Yuhyun?
My biological son.
A young boy, who looked older than five years old because he was taller than kids his age, entered the room with heavy footsteps as if he were being dragged there.
Aigoo.
The kid obviously hates being here.
Wonyoung was amused, though.
It was like looking at a mini version of Yun Dujun, after all.
My genes didn’t even try— my son looks like an exact copy of his Alpha father.
Oh, except for the hair color, since Yun Dujun had jet-black hair.
Yun Yuhyun inherited my natural brown hair.
That made Wonyoung feel a little better.
"Yuhyun-ah, this is the person I wanted to introduce to you," Lee Heeju said, carrying Yun Yuhyun in his arms. "This is Bae Wonyoung, your Omega father—"
"No! That
Aigoo.
Lee Heeju smiled apologetically at the child. "Yuhyun-ah, you can’t say that. You’re hurting your Omega father’s feelings. I can’t be your father."
"Why not?" Wonyoung asked bluntly. "If you want to be the kid’s father, then go ahead. Don’t mind me, Ahjussi."
Lee Heeju looked at Wonyoung in disbelief.
Even Yun Yuhyun stopped crying as if the child couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
"What?" Wonyoung asked, confused by Lee Heeju and Yun Yuhyun’s reactions. "Did you expect me to cry and beg for the affection of a child I just met two minutes ago?"
"Yun Yuhyun isn’t a random child, Wonyoung-ah," Lee Heeju reminded him sternly. "Yun Yuhyun is your biological son."
"Well, he doesn’t want me. And that’s valid," Wonyoung said casually, and then he shot Yun Yuhyun a cold look. "If you don’t want me as your father, then I don’t want you as my son either."
