Chapter 5: DETACHMENT ISSUES
WONYOUNG realized that he might have been too harsh when he saw the devastated look on Yun Yuhyun’s face.
Regardless of his personal feelings— rather lack of— towards his biological son, a child was still a child. Yun Yuhyun was only five years old. It was only normal for a kid who saw his estranged father for the first time to react that way.
However...
What is this nagging feeling in my chest?
Wonyoung was feeling irritated, and for some reason, that irritation was being directed at Yun Yuhyun.
I know I’m not a good person, but am I really that bad to hate on an innocent child?
Was it because he knew what kind of adult Yun Yuhyun had become in Chained to You?
"You’re being cruel, Wonyoung-ah."
Argh.
When Lee Heeju ’scolded’ Wonyoung, the Alpha’s pheromones suddenly became thicker and heavier.
I feel like it’s crushing me...
"Wonyoung-ah, you can’t speak like that to a child— especially not to our Yuhyun," Lee Heeju said sternly. The more the Alpha talked, the more his pheromones ’attacked’ Wonyoung. "Apologize."
Lee Heeju’s words started to sound like a command that Wonyoung couldn’t disobey.
The Alphas’ pheromones were making Wonyoung feel faint.
No, this couldn’t be.
I take pride in the fact that only Dujun Sunbae-nim’s pheromones could affect me, so I won’t let Lee Heeju’s pheromones crush me like this.
SLAP.
That was the sound of Wonyoung slapping his arm— hard.
Ouch.
Both Lee Heeju and Yun Yuhyun were startled.
To be fair, Wonyoung was also surprised at how heavy his hand was.
It hurts.
But, at least, the pain cleared his head instantly.
Now that Wonyoung could think straight again, he finally thought of releasing his pheromones.
Not all Omegas could do that.
But he was a Dominant Omega, so it was easy for him to control his pheromones.
Finally— I can breathe properly again now that I’m breathing in my own scent.
"Argh..."
Heh.
Lee Heeju scrunched his nose, obviously disgusted by Wonyoung’s pheromones.
Yep, this Ahjussi hates me.
Fork found in the kitchen.
"Yun Yuhyun, I was mean, wasn’t I?" Wonyoung asked Yun Yuhyun, completely ignoring Lee Heeju this time. "Did I hurt your feelings?"
Yun Yuhyun flinched, but the child didn’t answer.
"My feelings were hurt when you said you wanted Lee Heeju Ahjussi as your father instead of me," Wonyoung said. He wasn’t sure if his feelings were really hurt by that, but he thought it was the kind of explanation that Yun Yuhyun would understand. "So, I said those hurtful words. It’s childish, I know. I’m sorry, Yun Yuhyun."
For the record, he didn’t apologize because of Lee Heeju’s ’order.’
He just truly felt bad for hating on a literal child.
My biological son, at that.
Anyway, Yun Yuhyun remained silent.
Actually, the kid was frowning.
Wonyoung, for some reason, found it endearing.
Yun Yuhyun looks like Dujun Sunbae-nim whenever Dujun Sunbae-nim sulks.
"Yuhyun-ah, your father apologized to you," Lee Heeju said, speaking softly to the kid. "You were also rude and mean to him. What do we say to the person we hurt?"
Aigoo.
Wonyoung didn’t want to admit it solely because of pride, but Lee Heeju was obviously a better parent to Yun Yuhyun than he would ever be.
Maybe I’m just not fit to be a parent.
"I-I’m sorry... Hyung-nim."
Oh?
Wonyoung wasn’t surprised that Yun Yuhyun apologized to him— he was just a bit startled that the child addressed him as ’hyung-nim.’
But maybe he should be grateful that the kid didn’t call him ’ahjussi.’
"Yun Yuhyun, I’ll treat you how you treat me," Wonyoung said in a serious and slightly gentle tone. "If you can’t accept me as your father, then it’s fine if you treat me as a hyung."
You’ll still call me ’father-in-law’ if you end up with An Baekya anyway.
Because, yes, Wonyoung was planning to adopt An Baekya once he found the ’protagonist’ of that world.

"YOU didn’t have to get out of bed, Wonyoung-ah."
"It’s fine, Ahjussi. I’m not that weak anymore," Wonyoung said while reading the documents that Lee Heeju handed to him earlier. "Ahjussi, is this really the reason why the billions of won I received from Dujun Sunbae-nim have disappeared? As well as my luxury penthouse and foreign car?"
He lifted his head since he felt like he was going to have a crash-out if he kept looking at the long report that he had just finished reading.
"My uncle claimed them all?"
"Yes, that’s right," Lee Heeju said, and then he sipped his coffee before explaining. "I don’t know the details, but it was Dujunnie who allowed your relatives to claim your possessions after you fell into a coma."
"Sunbae-nim did?"
"You can ask him about it when he returns."
Wow.
Wonyoung felt betrayed.
He wanted to ask why Yun Dujun would do that, but he realized he didn’t want to hear the answer from Lee Heeju.
"Ahjussi, I want to talk to Dujun Sunbae-nim."
"That might be difficult because Dujunnie is filming in Greece. The production company he’s working with is pretty strict, so he rarely uses his phone. And you know Dujunnie. That brat really doesn’t like talking much."
"Dujun Sunbae-nim talks fine."
"Excuse me?"
"Dujun Sunbae-nim talks a lot when we’re together."
"Dujunnie?"
"Yes, Dujunnie Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said, nodding. "He even yaps about buying a farm and raising cattle for beef once he retires."
"Oh."
"Anyway, I’m sure Dujun Sunbae-nim will talk just fine once I ask him about this issue. Can you give me his number?"
Lee Heeju smiled apologetically. "I’m sorry, Wonyoung-ah. It seems like Dujunnie doesn’t want to be disturbed while filming. He actually sent me here to take care of you, so you can just tell me if you need anything."
That sounded like bullshit.
It seems like Lee Heeju has no intention of letting me talk to Dujun Sunbae-nim. Is he threatened by me? Well, it’s understandable since I’m still married to Dujun Sunbae-nim.
"My family owns this hospital, so you can stay as long as you need without worrying about the bill. We’ll provide you with everything you need until you’re fully recovered."
Oh, right.
I almost forgot that Lee Heeju is a
"I have a question for you, Ahjussi."
"Go ahead."
"Will I still get alimony once I divorce Dujun Sunbae-nim?"
Lee Heeju almost dropped his cup of coffee, obviously shocked.
Shocked but delighted, that is.
"You want a divorce?"
"Yes."
Wonyoung didn’t feel the need to give Lee Heeju an explanation, so he didn’t elaborate.
But divorcing Yun Dujun was something he had decided on while recovering for the past three months.
It came after his decision to adopt An Baekya once he found the child later.
I can’t adopt An Baekya while married to Dujun Sunbae-nim since that will make him and Yun Yuhyun adopted siblings. It’s not like I’m eager for the two kids to end up together in the future. But I don’t want to complicate things if ever those two are really meant for each other.
If Wonyoung raised An Baekya, maybe the awful relationship that An Baekya and Yun Yuhyun had in Chained to You would change.
"Then what about Yun Yuhyun?"
"What about the child, Ahjussi?"
"If you divorce Dujunnie, you’ll lose custody of Yun Yuhyun. I’m telling you in advance, Wonyoung-ah— you can’t win the custody war against Dujunnie. First of all, the law favors Alphas more than Omegas. It’s unfair, but that’s the unfortunate truth."
"I know that, Ahjussi."
"And you still want to divorce Dujunnie?"
Wonyoung just nodded.
Yun Yuhyun will probably grow up fine if I quietly disappear from his life, unlike how I ended up dying in Endless. Maybe if my death doesn’t traumatize him, he’ll have a normal childhood with Lee Heeju and Yun Dujun.
In short, he figured Yun Yuhyun would be fine without him.
But An Baekya only has me.
Yeah, Wonyoung also didn’t know why he felt this strong urge to protect his future son-in-law, but he couldn’t help it.
"Wonyoung-ah, you’re really not fit to be a parent, huh?"
For the record, Lee Heeju was correct.
But it still hurts hearing it straight from this ahjussi.
"You’re making this easy for me, Wonyoung-ah," Lee Heeju said, leaning against the chair. "Sign the divorce papers now, and I will give you the amount of alimony that Dujunnie promised you before."
"I don’t need your money, Ahjussi— I only accept things like that from Dujun Sunbae-nim," Wonyoung said firmly. "Don’t worry— I’ll still sign the divorce papers."
***
"I’M SORRY, Bae Wonyoung-ssi— but you have to be married to adopt a child."
What the...?
Wonyoung was shocked after hearing that from the orphanage he had reached out to.
No, he hadn’t found An Baekya yet.
He simply called to ask about the adoption process in preparation.
I thought the process was lenient for Omegas!
So, now, Wonyoung was shocked by the realization that hit him.
I need to stay married to Dujun Sunbae-nim if I want to adopt An Baekya?
