Chapter 326. Baited 2

Chapter 326: Chapter 326. Baited 2

Chapter 326

Vesper was extremely shocked, so shocked that he could not process the sight before him.

What the hell was going on?

To say that Vesper Locke was shocked was an understatement.

He was extremely confused.

"Don’t tell me..."

"I see you’ve figured out why you are in this situation," Ethan Revearson coldly mocked, on noticing the expression of realization on Vesper’s face, having realised that instead of thinking he was baiting Kailen Darkhaven into a trap, he had been rather baited into one.

Zarek Atrexia stared at Vesper calmly, satisfied with how things had played out, remembering what led to this outcome.

Kailen Darkhaven had contacted him a few days ago concerning Vesper Locke—after he sent Kailen a message that Vesper was the likely suspect of the incident. Kailen said that he highly suspected that the next step Vesper would take would be to invite Kailen out on some sort of mission, probably inwardly leveraging on the fact that Kailen owed Vesper and would agree to the mission to repay the favor for Vesper’s "charitable deed" of saving the members of the Sword Tribunal Society.

Kailen further suspected that during this mission, Vesper would lay out some sort of ambush for Kailen and intend to get rid of him. Kailen had proposed that he did not know the kind of cards Vesper has up his sleeves, and that Vesper was rumored to be the strongest councillor on campus.

Kailen said that he didn’t doubt his own strength, but he didn’t want to take any chances. Therefore, he wanted Zarek—the rumored strongest student in the academy, who apparently had no interest in academy politics and the positions of councillors—to subdue Vesper for him.

Naturally, Zarek agreed, since his intention had been to support Kailen and ride on Kailen’s coattails when he became a hegemon in the not-too-far future.

Zarek also recalled that Ethan Revearson, according to Kailen, was also in on the ploy to ambush and subdue Vesper. Turns out Ethan wanted to overthrow his father , a leader of the one of the prestigious clans in Atlantis,in some time to come, and he needed Kailen’s help to do that in the near future.

For some reason Kailen didn’t disclose, Kailen had agreed to help the fellow in exchange for Ethan contributing to subduing Vesper Locke.

Zarek had not been in the least bit surprised that Ethan had agreed to be part of the ploy—not only because he thought it was natural for Ethan to do anything to secure Kailen’s aid concerning the coup Ethan had planned against his father—but also due to another reason: Ethan himself had some sort of vendetta with Vesper Locke in the past. However, due to disparity in their strength, Ethan had swallowed his pride in humiliation and decided to let it go.

But now that Zarek was in the equation, it was only natural that Ethan would figure out that Vesper’s end would be set in stone. Therefore, Ethan would definitely take advantage of this opportunity to get his revenge on Vesper for what happened back then.

Not only get his revenge on Vesper, he would also secure Kailen’s aid during the coup he was planning against his stupid old man in Atlantis when the time was ripe, eventually killing two birds with one stone.

"How is this possible?" Zarek said as he looked at Vesper with a mocking expression on his face.

"I’ve always wanted to one day tear down that gentleman facade of yours. Not only did my girlfriend disappear after suddenly embarking on a mission with you, you didn’t even bother to offer me any explanation concerning how she died," Ethan added, then furthered.

"And when I asked you what happened, you told me she died saving your life," he continued, eyes bleeding killing intent. "As if I would believe that someone as strong as you would need someone to save them!

My instincts always gnawed at me that you did something bad to her, but I had to keep quiet because you were stronger than me. Today, however, things are different!"

"Although I was certain that this plan would not backfire, it’s a good thing I had a plan B," Vesper mused inwardly.

The vimodial replied, "Don’t kid yourself. Had it not been for me, you’d have ventured here alone and would have been killed."

Vesper sighed. "Sure, sure. Thank you. It’s not like you are doing this for my sake anyway."

Vesper knew that the vimodial was protecting him because he was like a farm animal being raised and fed for the slaughter. The vimodial was making him strong, only to completely erode his consciousness one day and completely take over his being.

Vesper mused further.

"Kailen Darkhaven, that guy is something else. He baited me into a trap when I thought he was being gullible. All those expressions he was making, all the words he spake... This guy can seriously pretend. He’s extremely sly!

But how was he able to get the brother of someone his vice president killed on his side? Never mind that, where the hell is he right now?"

Vesper muttered inwardly. All these thoughts had flashed through his mind in the span of a few moments, not more than even a second. So barely a moment had passed after Ethan spoke to him.

His voice, sharp and commanding, reverberated through the environs.

"You can come out now. Some of you should spread out and search for Kailen Darkhaven, bring him to me. The rest of you, help me to deal with these two."

Several figures suddenly materialised in the environs, bearing various malicious expressions on their faces. Some of them whizzed through the swamp, moving towards different directions. Others surrounded Ethan and Zarek from all directions, readying their attacks.

"Twenty rank 4 supreme stage ascendant level lifeforms, and four rank 2 supreme stage ascendant level lifeforms. Even I cannot deal with all of them. Darkhaven mentioned something about some reinforcements, right?"

Kailen, observing everything through the eyes of Hound 1, veiled from their presence, sighed.

"What a sly bastard. All of them are vimodial contractors too. Come out, everyone."
