“Mommy, Daddy’s car.”
Jiang Ziyu returned with her three children. Hearing Xiao Ran’s words, she looked in the direction he was pointing.
Glancing at the time on her watch, Jiang Ziyu felt surprised. “He’s back so early today?”
“Mommy, let’s hurry inside to find Daddy.”
The three children clamored, pulling Jiang Ziyu towards the courtyard.
“The madam is back.” The servant stood at the entrance of the front hall. Upon seeing Jiang Ziyu, she nervously called into the house.
They weren’t usually like this, so Jiang Ziyu instinctively looked towards the interior of the front hall. “Is there a guest at home?”
The servant replied nervously, “No, no.”
If there wasn’t, why was she acting so nervous and uneasy?
Sensing something was amiss, Jiang Ziyu quickly entered.
“You’re back.” Di Jianhan sat on the sofa, smiling as he greeted Jiang Ziyu.
His sudden display of friendliness made Jiang Ziyu nod uncomfortably. “Yes, Uncle. Where is Mingjue?”
Ignoring her question, Di Jianhan immediately addressed the three children beside him. “Come here quickly. Grandpa specially had someone buy you the best pastries in the capital.”
Children love sweets, especially when they’re trying to please their grandfather. The children let go of Jiang Ziyu’s hands and ran to Di Jianhan’s side.
Seeing the children go over, Jiang Ziyu looked up at the second floor and then moved to go upstairs.
Taking a step, Di Jianhan spoke again. “You come over too. See if there’s anything you like.”
Faced with a choice, Jiang Ziyu withdrew her thoughts from upstairs. She believed Di Jianhan was doing all this to make amends, especially since she and Di Mingjue were now a certainty and wouldn’t be separating.
As Di Mingjue’s father, he had no better choice but to overcome his reservations and accept her and the children.
Jiang Ziyu approached the sofa and, looking at the several large boxes of pastries, replied politely, “Thank you, Uncle.”
“Eat slowly. You kids, bring some milk.” Di Jianhan said to the children, then instructed the servants nearby.
One moment indifferent, the next enthusiastic, Jiang Ziyu sat there feeling extremely awkward. Fortunately, there was a child to help ease the atmosphere. Otherwise, she truly wouldn’t have known what to do.
Di Jianhan entertained the children, occasionally looking up at Jiang Ziyu. Seeing her distracted, he didn’t engage her and instead glanced towards the second floor.
Upstairs, in the room.
The moment their lips met, Di Mingjue pushed Lu Sisi away. He picked up the pair of scissors that had been there and held them in front of him, forcing Lu Sisi to stay back.
“Brother Mingjue, I’m helping you, not harming you.” Lu Sisi reached out, trying to grab his scissors, but Di Mingjue’s caution prevented her from doing so.
Before she could get close, Di Mingjue let out a forceful command, “Get out!”
With the scissors held before him, Lu Sisi had no choice but to remain in place, not daring to take another step forward.
Di Mingjue turned, swaying, and used his momentum to reach the door. He pulled the doorknob, realizing Di Jianhan had locked it from the outside.
His rationality wouldn’t last forever. When the drug’s effects returned, he wouldn’t be able to hold on. He had to break down the door now.
Looking around the room, Di Mingjue shakily picked up a vase and hurled it forcefully towards the floor.
With a crash, the vase shattered, scattering glass everywhere and causing Lu Sisi to cry out, covering her head.
The sound drifted out through the crack in the door. Jiang Ziyu, with her keen hearing, looked up towards the second floor. “Uncle, I’ll go upstairs to check.”
“Sit down!” Di Jianhan’s tone was grave. “Nothing is happening upstairs. You just sit here and accompany the children.”
For some reason, Jiang Ziyu vaguely felt Di Jianhan was hiding something from her. Why wouldn’t he let her go upstairs? Moreover, she hadn’t seen Di Mingjue or Lu Sisi since returning.
Could it be related to Lu Sisi?
Jiang Ziyu stood by the sofa, staring intently at the second floor, contemplating whether to go up and see.
