After Lu Sisi was sent abroad, the Di residence returned to its usual tranquility. Di Jianhan dared not cause any more trouble and dutifully stayed home to cultivate his character, living a quiet life in his old age.
The old lady continued to feel drowsy. To Jiang Ziyu's surprise, she found a sachet hidden beneath the old lady's pillow. Upon opening it, she discovered it contained medicinal herbs with sedative properties. These were colorless and odorless, but prolonged inhalation could induce sleepiness.
The matter of the sachet was solely Lu Sisi's doing. When the evidence was presented to Di Jianhan, even he was taken aback.
"I didn't ask her to do anything to harm the old lady," Di Jianhan protested.
Di Mingjue scrutinized his flustered expression with suspicion.
"You doubt me?" Di Jianhan challenged indignantly, "The person lying in bed is my mother. Do you think I would harm her?"
What good was being a birth son when a birth son could plot to harm him in front of his face?
To prevent an argument, Jiang Ziyu pulled Di Mingjue aside. "Grandma has been moved to another room. I will treat her again after her body has absorbed the sedative components."
Last night, she had specifically practiced acupuncture techniques. For patients who had fallen unconscious due to high blood pressure, it was crucial to lower their blood pressure first. She had stayed up late studying acupuncture treatments for hypertension. She would administer acupuncture shortly to observe the old lady's reaction. If it was unsuccessful, surgery would be necessary.
The three of them stood by the old lady's bedside. Di Jianhan noticed the old lady's eyelids flutter and immediately exclaimed, "Mom, are you awake?"
She wearily opened her eyes, but the harsh light caused her to close them again uncomfortably.
Noticing the light reflecting off the glass, Jiang Ziyu went to the window and drew the curtains.
Once she became accustomed to the brightness, the old lady finally opened her eyes.
"Mom, how do you feel?" Di Jianhan occupied the entire space at the head of the bed, while Jiang Ziyu and Di Mingjue stood behind him helplessly.
The old lady waved her hand, bypassing him to greet, "Mingjue."
"I'm here." Di Mingjue shifted his position, squeezing into the narrow space between the bedside table and Di Jianhan.
The old lady felt as though she hadn't seen him in a long time. She tightly grasped his hand and asked, "When did you get back?"
"You don't remember?" Di Mingjue realized there was an issue.
Throughout the past week, the old lady had been experiencing days of prolonged sleep punctuated by brief periods of wakefulness. Her mind was in a fog, and she could no longer distinguish.
The old lady shook her head and rubbed her throbbing temples. "My head hurts."
"Let me see," Jiang Ziyu squeezed her way to the front with effort.
Taking a medical penlight from her pocket, she bent down and gently lifted the old lady's eyelid. The light shone into her eye, revealing cloudy patches on the pupil.
"I'll go get some hot water to wash Grandma's face."
Jiang Ziyu stood up to leave but was stopped by Di Mingjue, who reached out and said, "I'll go."
The room had a private bathroom. Di Mingjue carried a basin filled with hot water and a towel, and then brought over a chair to place beside the bed.
Jiang Ziyu picked up the hot towel, folded it into a small square, and placed it over the old lady's eyes.
The steam on her eyelids immediately brought relief to the swollen eyes, and her entire body felt more comfortable.
After a minute or two, Jiang Ziyu removed the towel, rinsed it in the basin, wrung it out, and began to wipe the old lady's skin.
"Thank you for your trouble." The old lady looked at Jiang Ziyu with gratitude.
Being thanked for such a minor task made Jiang Ziyu feel a little self-conscious.
"Grandma, how do you feel now?" she asked softly.
"Much better, but my chest feels tight and uncomfortable." The old lady reached up and rubbed her chest.
Before she had woken up, Jiang Ziyu had taken her blood pressure. The discomfort in her chest was a result of the pressure from her high blood pressure.
Jiang Ziyu moved the chair back and opened her acupuncture kit, which she had brought earlier.
