Mu Liangchen had already arrived at the appointed meeting place. He parked his car and checked his phone.
It had been over half an hour since he sent the message, but Jiang Ziyu still hadn't responded.
He tapped the screen and made a call.
After a series of rings, the call was answered.
"Ziyu, where are you?" Mu Liangchen asked.
It was very quiet on the other end of the line.
Mu Liangchen took the phone away from his ear and looked down at it. "Is it inconvenient to talk? I'm already here. Do you know Peter is in the country? Let's have a meal together, the three of us."
As before, there was no sound from the other end of the call, and the call was hung up.
Mu Liangchen stared at the disconnected call, looking puzzled.
Did something happen?
Just as he was about to dial again, his shoulder was forcefully patted.
"Hi!" Peter flashed into Mu Liangchen's view.
Seeing his friend, Mu Liangchen was in a very good mood. He opened his arms and shared an intimate hug with Peter.
"Let's go in," Mu Liangchen said, and the two followed the waiter to the private room they had booked in advance.
Upon arriving at the private room, Mu Liangchen thought of Jiang Ziyu again. He took out his phone and stared at the screen, swiping back and forth.
Seeing his preoccupation, Peter asked, "Is something wrong?"
Mu Liangchen shook his head. "It's Ziyu. She didn't reply to my message or my call just now."
"Do you know she's already married?" Peter asked with a somber expression.
Mu Liangchen looked up, his face filled with surprise. "How do you know?"
"We met yesterday," Peter said. "With her husband. We had a meal together."
"What about the call just now?" Mu Liangchen asked.
The expressions of both men turned grim.
As the thought occurred to him, Peter took his phone out of his pocket. "Let me try."
There was no other way.
He dialed the number and put it on speakerphone.
After one ring, the call was answered.
"Peter?"
"It's me," Peter said, glancing at Mu Liangchen. "What are you doing?"
"At home," Jiang Ziyu said, looking at Di Mingjue beside her.
Her phone had just rung as she walked in.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled teasingly, "I'm with Liangchen. He sent you a message and called, but you didn't respond. He was so worried he thought something had happened to you."
Listening to the voice from the phone, Jiang Ziyu lowered her head and looked at Di Mingjue beside her. Holding her phone, she turned and naturally walked towards the balcony.
"I was downstairs just now, and my phone was in the room, so I didn't hear it," Jiang Ziyu explained.
Peter raised an eyebrow and pushed the phone towards Mu Liangchen. "You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Public security in China is much better than abroad. What could happen to her?"
Mu Liangchen felt a bit embarrassed by the comment. He said into the phone, "It's good that you're okay. I called you just now, and when I couldn't get a response, I thought something had happened to you."
"The call was answered?" Jiang Ziyu asked urgently.
Mu Liangchen was taken aback and paused before replying, "Yes, but you didn't respond to me."
Uh oh!
Jiang Ziyu turned to look at Di Mingjue behind her. When she came in, her phone was in his hand. Did he answer the call?
"I have something to attend to. You take Peter and have a good time. I'll contact you when I have time," Jiang Ziyu said, without giving Mu Liangchen a chance to speak, and hung up.
Mu Liangchen looked at his phone and realized the seriousness of the situation.
"Everyone's fine, so why the long face?" Peter teased.
Mu Liangchen bit his finger and shook his head. "Di Mingjue answered the phone."
"Doesn't he know about your relationship?" Peter suddenly recalled Di Mingjue asking him about Jiang Ziyu's life abroad and the people around her during their meal.
He slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "Don't tell me it's because of what I said!"
