Chapter 224 Clumsy Acting

"President Wu, you jest. Wu's is flourishing now, the fastest-growing company in the capital. How can you call it a humble abode," Di Mingjue said with flattery.

The barrage of compliments left Wu Jie unable to respond. In front of Di Mingjue, he was transparent; whatever he thought, the other could see. Conversely, he couldn't fathom Di Mingjue's thoughts at all.

Smiling nervously, Wu Jie could not reciprocate.

Di Mingjue ceased his teasing and spoke, "I had nothing to do today and happened to pass by the construction site. Since it's a project our company is involved in, I went in to take a look. Do you know what I saw?"

The cup on the conference table was knocked over by Wu Jie. Hot water spilled onto his suit.

Alice, standing nearby, rushed forward to help clean up.

"President Wu, are you alright? Did you get burned? Shen Lin, go see," Di Mingjue commanded.

Shen Lin approached, and Wu Jie's legs went weak with fright. Forgetting his disheveled state, he slumped into the chair. His body swayed, and he nearly toppled off. Fortunately, Shen Lin reacted quickly and steadied the chair.

"Th-thank you," Wu Jie stammered, his eyes darting around aimlessly.

Shen Lin glanced back at Di Mingjue and walked back to his side.

"Looking at President Wu, it seems you've guessed what I want to ask?" Di Mingjue's expression darkened as he questioned coldly.

Facing Di Dongsheng, Wu Jie had the upper hand. After all, it was he who needed Wu's to complete his plan. Now, however, Di Mingjue was like a judge, his arrival intended to constrain Wu Jie. What chance did he have to fight back?

Anxiety consumed his entire body. Wu Jie's face grew increasingly flustered, large beads of sweat sliding down his forehead.

"What's wrong with President Wu? Are you not feeling well?" Di Mingjue glanced at the central air conditioner above the conference room. "You seem quite warm; shall we turn on the air conditioning?"

"No, no need," Wu Jie shook his head, then pressed his hands firmly against his lower abdomen. "My stomach suddenly hurts a little. I apologize for making President Di laugh. If you don't mind, I need to go to the restroom to relieve myself."

Such a clumsy excuse. It seemed everything heard and seen at the construction site was true.

Di Mingjue nodded, leisurely picking up the teacup before him. "Take your time, President Wu. It doesn't matter how long it takes. It gives me time to properly savor your company's tea."

Hearing that he intended to wait indefinitely, Wu Jie was stunned. He had expected Di Mingjue to leave, but why was reality so different from his expectations?

Seeing that he was serious, Wu Jie had no choice but to play along. Feigning a stomachache, he walked out of the conference room, bent over and clutching his stomach.

Alice dared not linger and quickly followed.

Once they had left, Shen Lin asked in confusion, "President Di, he's clearly faking. Why didn't you just say so?"

He was the CEO of a small company. If Di Mingjue wished, he could make Di Dongsheng himself, let alone him, disappear from the capital overnight. Why pretend not to know and let him leave the interrogation successfully?

Di Mingjue took a sip of tea, letting the liquid slowly flow down his throat. He glanced at the impatient Shen Lin and pointed to the teacup in front of him. "Tea should be savored slowly. Taste it and see how it is."

After hearing this, Shen Lin began to understand, but he couldn't sit there as calmly as Di Mingjue to taste the tea.

Arriving at his office, Wu Jie spun around in place, patting his head and muttering, "What should I do? What should I do!"

He wanted to ask Mu Liangchen for advice, but Mu Liangchen had told him not to bother him unless it was a major issue. He couldn't be sure if Di Mingjue's visit was that important.

While he was brooding, Alice entered. Seeing his troubled expression, she suggested, "Why doesn't Young President Di say that the two of them aren't on bad terms?"
