The man beside her, straining his ears to listen to Ye Ziyu’s conversation with the police, knew things were not going well. His eyes darted around, his mind racing for an escape.
His gaze met Ye Ziyu’s, and he immediately thought of a plan.
"Officer, may I go to the restroom?"
The policeman glanced up at him, then nodded to his colleague, "You take him."
"Follow me," the officer who had been diligently writing down notes stood up from his chair.
The man offered no resistance, complying with the officer’s guidance as he left his seat.
"I'll wait for you outside," the officer said, standing outside the restroom and not following him in.
The man nodded his thanks, then turned and entered the restroom. Spotting the stalls ahead, he walked directly to the furthest one.
In the lobby, Ye Ziyu had finished giving her statement.
"Miss Ye, would you like us to arrange an escort for you?" the female officer asked, standing up from her chair and looking at Ye Ziyu, who was alone.
