The banquet hosted by the Gu Corporation was held at the largest hotel in Sijiu City. This event was even grander than the one Mr. Gu had organized to welcome Gu Xiuyu back to the country.
Even before reaching the hotel entrance, a red carpet was laid out, with reporters lining up on either side behind barricades.
"Mr. Di, we have arrived," Shen Lin reminded as he turned back.
The vehicles parked at the main entrance had not moved, preventing their car from proceeding.
Di Mingjue glanced outside and then lowered his head to adjust his shirt.
Sensing he was about to exit, Shen Lin quickly got out to open the car door for him.
Di Mingjue's appearance instantly drew the attention of reporters nearby. Cameras swiveled towards them like sunflowers, all focusing their lenses.
Shen Lin shielded Di Mingjue from the front, blocking some of the blinding light.
Upon entering the hotel, they found it already filled with the CEOs of various companies attending the banquet.
"Mr. Di." Gu Xiuyu navigated through the crowd to approach Di Mingjue. "I thought you wouldn't come."
"Since CEO Gu has extended such a generous invitation, how could I refuse?" Di Mingjue surveyed the entire hall.
From the scale of the event, it didn't seem like a trap set just for him!
Gu Xiuyu glanced at Shen Lin beside Di Mingjue and deliberately brought up, "Has Ziyu not fully recovered?"
Hearing Ye Ziyu's name from his lips, Di Mingjue felt an inexplicable annoyance. His expression darkened, and he fixed his gaze on Gu Xiuyu's concerned face. "I saw someone I know and went to greet them. I won't disturb CEO Gu from hosting his guests."
Di Mingjue, with Shen Lin, moved away from Gu Xiuyu.
There was no acquaintance to greet; it was a clear indication that he did not wish to engage further.
Gu Xiuyu retracted his gaze from Di Mingjue, his peripheral vision catching Gu Xiukai emerging from a side hall.
Today's banquet was partly for Di Mingjue and partly concerning the Gu Corporation.
Blocking his path, Gu Xiuyu came face to face with Gu Xiukai.
"I can't believe you dared to set me up!" Gu Xiukai grabbed Gu Xiuyu's collar.
Gu Xiuyu looked down at the veins bulging on Gu Xiukai's hand and calmly removed his grip. "Brother, the guests are all watching. Are you sure you want to argue with me here?"
"Don't call me Brother!" Gu Xiukai retorted angrily. "You deliberately set a trap for me to snatch the company. Do you think we still have brotherly affection?"
Gu Xiuyu looked at him, still seemingly unaware. "Snatch the company? Brother, I think you've got it backwards. Didn't you start snatching the company first?"
During his brief absence, Gu Xiukai had exploited the opportunity. Not only had he made significant changes to the company, but he had also placed their father in the hospital and neglected him.
If anyone was being heartless, it was Gu Xiukai who had initiated it.
"Do you think you can be the CEO of Gu Corporation forever?"
"Whether I can be the CEO of Gu Corporation forever is not important. What's important is whether I am the CEO now. Brother, there are reporters outside. If you don't want tomorrow's newspapers to be filled with news about you, you'd better attend today's banquet honestly and not do anything you'll regret."
Gu Xiuyu knew very well what Gu Xiukai intended to do. He likely wanted to publicize his actions with the help of the guests. However, he shouldn't overestimate his own capabilities.
If he were truly capable of earning the favor of these people, Mr. Gu would have handed the company over to him long ago.
Gu Xiuyu patted Gu Xiukai's shoulder kindly and turned to walk towards the crowd.
Facing the cunning Gu Xiuyu, Gu Xiukai knew he couldn't defeat him in a direct confrontation.
From a corner, Di Mingjue and Shen Lin observed their entire exchange.
"Is that the eldest young master of the Gu family?"
"Yes. Gu Xiukai has always been suppressed by Gu Xiuyu, and Mr. Gu has never favored him."
Shen Lin answered Di Mingjue's question.
If he was never favored, then his feelings towards Gu Xiuyu would likely be jealousy, not familial affection.
