Chapter 804: Distrust

Nart was stunned. Even Eid fell silent.

Clovis’ words were so reasonable that they couldn’t refute them. Now that they thought about it, they were forced to fight because they wanted a connection with the Dark Moon Mercenary.

The scenario Clovis painted was so vivid in their minds that it wouldn’t be weird if it happened in reality.

"Clovis."

"Young Master!"

Both Vina and Stefany panicked. They didn’t know anything about this, so why would Clovis suddenly talk so much nonsense?

"Shut up! I’m thinking!" Nart raised his voice.

Eid didn’t say anything about his outburst. It looked like he understood the situation as well.

"What is Clovis doing?" Kanaria asked.

"I’m not sure, but it looks like there’s a problem with the situation. And it’s true that the Dark Moon Mercenary will benefit the most." Christina frowned. "If you think about it, what will happen if we end up fighting the Three Swords to the death?

"The Libation Fiesta aside, the Elseingarde and the Hacfield family might get involved, right? And there’s also Mara Leverstrike, Clovis’ mentor. If three Tier 9 are involved and feel thankful to the Dark Moon Mercenary..."

Christina didn’t have to finish it. This successor battle sounded like it was the Dark Moon Mercenary trying to use the Three Swords as a stepping stone so that they could get a relationship with three Tier 9 humans. Besides, Clovis and Christina had the potential to become a Tier 9 as well.

Obviously, the Three Swords didn’t want to be destroyed. On the other hand, Clovis looked at the bigger picture and lowered himself to the Three Swords level so that they didn’t get destroyed.

It was the same as when Clovis willingly negotiated a peace agreement when he was ahead.

Vina and Stefany had to explain that they knew nothing about such a scheme. And their intention was pure, but Nart and Eid were deep in thought.

Clovis, on the other hand, didn’t say anything to Vina. He simply came here and brought a storm.

Nart looked down. ’Clovis Hacfield is not wrong. There’s no way I want the Three Swords to fall. But it might be if we treat the Libation Fiesta as a nemesis. The scary part is not the Libation Fiesta but the Tier 9 humans backing them...

’Although none of them are famous in the east, they can still come and destroy us without a big problem.

’The Dark Moon Mercenary might be one of the top two groups in their field, but they are still incomparable to the Tier 9 household.

’Is that why Clovis Hacfield chose to stop this fight? If we don’t, we will be getting dragged into a much bigger war.

’Clovis might not like the fact that they are using schemes to pull him and his backers into this mess...’

Nart couldn’t see any reason for Clovis to lie. After all, this would sour the relationship between Clovis and Vina. Even if he lied to get the victory, Vina would doubt Clovis’ character.

’The reaction from his people was genuine. He looked like he couldn’t be contacted, and they weren’t aware of his whereabouts. In other words, Clovis might have done something else in the shadows and figured out everything...’

"Now that I think about it, you were the one who managed to get the information from the association president. Did you figure out anything else, Clovis?" Kanaria almost forgot about this fact.

"Kanaria? You too?" Vina gasped.

"!!!" Nart widened his eyes. It was no wonder Clovis had been one step further than them.

Clovis might have gone to the receptionist and finished the objective before he even gave the information to his group. He might have figured out something.

Nart became more and more suspicious of Vina and Stefany.

Stefany first approached them with a promise of expansion. This was a way for the Three Swords to be known not just in the east but throughout the entire world.

Hence, their masters agreed with her proposal.

’No way. Is this part of a mission? Our masters often tested us secretly to see our progress. They wanted us not only to grow strong but also wise. Are they accepting this mission so that they can test whether we have grown wiser?

’Are we supposed to figure this out and turn the situation around?

’If we think about it, we’re truly the ones in charge. If we or the Libation Fiesta decide to join hands, we can make one of them win. There’s also another successor we have to fight, but it doesn’t matter anymore...

’Once we join hands, the power balance will be broken.

’By using this situation to our advantage, we can force these two to offer us a much bigger deal. No, they might be competing with each other, like in an auction.

’This can only happen because they’re not allowed to use their people...

’The Dark Moon Mercenary has enough people to make a big war. They have plenty of Tier 8 humans. This is why I believe Clovis’ words. Why would they not want to spill their own blood? The reason is simple. They want us to spill our blood and get the winner for themselves.

’Such a sly move from the Dark Moon Mercenary... Still, there is also a chance that Clovis Hacfield has been lying the whole time and this whole thing is a charade.

’However, the doubt has been planted in our minds. Besides, he is offering us information regarding the succession battle and is willing to give us information from the association president.’

After reaching his conclusion, Nart turned to Eid. "Do you mind?"

Eid clicked his tongue. "I don’t know what you have in mind, but you think more than I do... Suit yourself."

Nart then turned to Clovis. "I can’t trust you."

"Young Master Nart..." Stefany’s face brightened. She thought she had won. After all, this doubt would sour the relationship between Clovis and Vina. Meanwhile, Nart chose to believe in her.

However, Nart actually stopped her while adding, "Hence, I want to put a condition. You and I. We will submit the mission. These two women are not allowed to see it. We will be the ones representing each group.

"This way, both of us have the power to advance the mission at our discretion."

"!!!" Stefany’s heart sank.
