Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Wings of a Bird Flock Together!
A boy laughed and joked, "Where do you work as a security guard? Are they hiring now? I would also love to join them and become a security guard too!".
He clearly could not believe him, otherwise how a Security Guard can afford a Bentley.
Alex smiled weakly and looked at Ananya to let her do the explaining.
"You should tell them, they should believe you rather than me," he said.
Ananya nodded seriously. "Guys, he actually works as a security guard in the a Mumbai Tech park where I work. He was not really bluffing. He really is a security guard."
The room was thrown into shocked silence.
What?!
A security guard?!
The so-called God of Fortune In their eyes... is he doing the job as a guard? Really, not fake right?.
Earlier, some boys had initially thought of bragging about their workplaces and boasting about their yearly wages, just wanting to flaunt themselves in front of others.
But now, all that they had been wishing to say suddenly sounded seemed hollowed out, because in comparison to Alex, even the humble profession of a security guard seemed beyond their reach now.
This guy was driving a multi-millionaire luxurious vehicle, walking with such pride, and yet he is living so low-key that he decided to work as a guard?
The hearts of all people became restless at that revelation. They were itching to inquire from Ananya where she worked.
With this kind of man, who won’t wish to work there as well?
The environment of the room soon became a mess and spiraled into chaos.
From the moment Alex walked in, everyone was tense, but the most surprised of them all was Meera.
A security guard? Driving a car like that? And still being this handsome? Why are these all sound so familiar?
As if on cue, she suddenly remembered something.
Wasn’t this the same guy her friend Anjali had complained about after a blind date disaster weeks ago?
As the saying wings of the a bird flock together, same could be said for the Meera and Anjali.
Yes Anjali, the same Anjali who is always snobby, fixated on money and prestige. And Meera, as her best friend, recalled every syllable of her chaos in the cafe.
Anjali had explained to her several times how much she wished she had not turned down that guy that day, telling her if only she could get a do-over of that incident, she would be even willing to groves at his feet even if he he let her act like a servant to him, she will be willing.
She has even sent Meera a photo of him.
So when Meera first laid eyes on Alex, she knew him in an instant.
"Wait! Aren’t you the dude who did the blind date with Anjali in the cafe?" she blurted, stepping forward near Alex.
"Anjali?" Alex frowned, looking puzzled at not recalling the name but he found the name familiar.
"That was the girl you met once in the cafe, for the blind date this month," Meera clarified quickly.
"Oh... that one."
Realization dawned on Alex only now He remembered her. No wonder the name had sounded familiar, it was the blind date his landlady Mrs.Lata had once set up.
Meera’s eyes lit up. "Honestly, Alex, she isn’t a good person at all. She is very materialistic, unlike me of course, always chasing after money. I’m not like her. I’m grounded, I value hard work more than fame and fortune, and I’m reliable."
Once she began, she couldn’t help herself. Meera continued and went on and on, complimenting herself, sneaking glances at Ananya, jealousy on her face.
It was not really fair. How did Ananya get such a man? But Not her?
The more she spoke, the more she believed she was a better fit for him, If she only had an opportunity to talk with Alex a few more times, perhaps—just perhaps—he would forget Ananya and come to her instead.
Meera continued, her voice growing more louder with each new "accomplishment".
"When I was in college, I did almost everything, I even participated in those social service missions to the villages—all those children adorable, you know? I can even dance, you see. Jazz dance! I actually have a good practice at it. And don’t even try to talk about food—I know everything about eating healthily and international foods. Overseas, everything is just different, you know once..."
And so she continued, reciting her strengths, her accomplishments, her so-called wisdom and talent, hardly taking a breath while reciting.
But Alex didn’t hear her at all.
In fact, he was standing close to Ananya, who is giggling softly from his soft joke.
They talked back and forth, totally disregarding Meera’s speech like introduction.
"Do you have time for dinner? Some other time, next week perhaps" Meera eventually asked, struggling to put on a smile. "There’s this new French restaurant down the street—it’s incredible! Shall we go together sometime?"
But as she turned to him, her face stiffened.
Alex wasn’t present anymore to listen to her nonsense.
He was already walking away with Ananya, the two of them now standing by the drinks counter, having a fruit juice together.
Meera’s voice got stuck in her throat.
Only then she realised that had just spent all that time chatting... to herself.
"..."
The spectacle didn’t escape the eyes of the crowd they looked at each other, hardly able to take in what they had seen.
Meera? Is this really the proud Meera from their college? Trying to steal her friend’s boyfriend?
What was this situation?!
Did she really think that just because she knew Alex through Anjali, she had the right to flaunt herself in front of Alex?
To shamelessly invite him to dinner while his girlfriend still stood right there?
Did she honestly believe her looks and words could outshine Ananya?
To them whole the thought was ridiculous and totally Unbelievable.
Everyone was left shaking their heads amused.
