As Jun Jiuli and the others entered C City, they saw a crowd gathered, as if confronting someone.
"The murderer must be him."
"No one else has enmity with that group except him."
"Officer, arrest him quickly, he's a dangerous person. He definitely didn't want the apocalypse to end, so he killed those experts."
"Oh, my child. Just when there was a chance for things to return to normal, this accursed person destroyed it. Heavens, open your eyes and see! Good people don't live long, but villains live for millennia."
"Shui Wa, I have an ominous feeling."
"Me too."
Jun Jiuli quickly weaved through the crowd and saw Pei An, his face pale and extremely impatient.
"Oh, my goodness. Could this be the blackening seen in TV dramas?"
Shui Wa: "Tremblingjpj."
It turned out that two of the scientific researchers brought by the military had previously visited the underground laboratory in C City. They were extremely dissatisfied with the rudimentary laboratory arranged for them by the military.
Therefore, they demanded that the military send someone to accompany them to the underground laboratory. Upon arrival, they encountered Pei An conducting experiments. They then used the survival of humanity to morally condemn Pei An, hoping he would yield the laboratory to them.
How could Pei An be swayed by moral coercion? They unilaterally argued with Pei An, and even attempted to use force. Those people were thoroughly beaten by the underground laboratory's mechanisms.
This morning, all those people were found dead. Since entering C City, they had been extremely ostentatious. All survivors recognized them and pinned their hopes for a vaccine on them.
Seeing that they did not come out to show off today, everyone went to check on them. To their surprise, all seven were dead, their bodies grotesquely mangled as if torn apart by large animals. Their faces were unrecognizable, and the room was strewn with dismembered body parts.
Even after two hours, the military doctors could not piece them together. The room was filled with the stench of blood, and many, upon seeing the scene, vomited incessantly.
Consequently, everyone turned their anger towards Pei An, believing he was the only one with a motive. After all, they didn't know Pei An well; he always kept to himself, and only Pei An had had a conflict with those people.
Jun Jiuli took a deep breath and shouted, "Quiet!" Everyone was stunned by his sudden outburst, and the scene fell silent for a moment.
"Everything requires evidence. You attack others based solely on speculation; doesn't your conscience hurt?"
"A special period calls for special treatment. Although we have no proof that it was him, we have valid reasons to suspect him. Unless you can provide evidence to prove it wasn't him."
"Heh, even if I can't provide evidence, what can you do?" Jun Jiuli released his full pressure, casting a cold glance. The man, intimidated, took two steps back.
Feeling his pride wounded, the man stepped forward again. "Who are you? I advise you not to meddle in other people's affairs. Although it is the apocalypse now, you cannot be lawless."
Jun Jiuli placed his great saber horizontally before him, the tip sinking three inches into the earth. "I am their guardian. Come to me with any issues."
The uncle felt a chill down his neck and was momentarily stunned. Seeing that Jun Jiuli was not someone to be trifled with, the crowd hurled a few threats and dispersed.
Shui Wa: "Cowards."
"Pei An, this is Doctor Fan Muyu whom you were looking for."
Pei An nodded obediently and greeted them, his expression indifferent. Doctor Fan, however, was very cordial and chatted with him familiarly.
"Pei An, you go back to the laboratory first. I need to talk to the military about something."
Pei An grunted and turned to leave. Doctor Fan greeted Jun Jiuli and followed Pei An.
When Jun Jiuli mentioned his vaccine research, the soldiers at the entrance immediately took him to see the commander.
"Miss Chu, hello. I heard you have developed a vaccine against zombies."
"Yes, Commander. I believe you have already noticed the difference in the zombies outside C City. They no longer attack indiscriminately. With a bit more time of medication, they will return to normal."
"Hahaha, good, good! You are truly a young hero. I will definitely give you great credit."
"That's not necessary. This is the vaccine formula. Commander, you can send some people out to find the materials. The army of nearly a hundred people that returned with me also brought back quite a few zombies along the way."
"Hahaha, truly heaven blesses our nation."
After they chatted for a while, the commander granted the laboratory as a reward to the siblings. Having achieved his goal, Jun Jiuli left.
The commander then convened a meeting with a group of high-ranking officials. An hour later, all areas with functioning communication equipment worldwide were broadcasting new information.
"The new base established in C City has mastered the vaccine to solve the zombie virus. Survivors with the capacity to travel are encouraged to head towards C City. If you encounter zombies, try not to kill them if possible. C City will also dispatch troops to various locations to rescue survivors."
"The apocalypse will eventually pass. Let us unite with one heart and work together to create a better home."
Night.
"Pei An, you did it."
"Yes."
"Hide your tracks well." With that, Jun Jiuli prepared to leave the laboratory.
"Sister Jiuli, don't you think I'm cruel?"
"This has nothing to do with me."
"Host, how did you know it was him?"
"Are you silly? The army is stationed right here. How could wild beasts possibly get in? Those people clearly looked like they were torn apart by mutated zombies."
"Tsk tsk tsk, could he be psychologically disturbed? His methods are truly brutal."
"This kid does have some issues, but he's not unreasonable. He might have known those people."
"Impossible, those people had no interaction with him before the apocalypse."
"What about after the apocalypse?"
"You mean... he's been reborn! ヽ(ຶ▮ຶ)ノ!!!"
"Yes, the aura he gives off now is completely different from before I left. Before, he was just somewhat paranoid and pathological; now he has completely blackened."
"Then won't the male and female leads be in trouble?"
"I don't care about that. If something happens to them, it's what they deserve. This is what they owe Pei An and Chu Nanxing."
With that, she lay down on her soft, large bed. Ah, another happy day.
When Pei An saw the extremely arrogant faces of those two people, scenes that felt incredibly real flashed through his mind.
"Base Commander, we haven't figured out what makes him special, and we are temporarily unable to strip him of his ability to control zombies."
"Continue your research, and decipher this secret at all costs."
"Understood."
He saw a person exactly like him lying on a cold operating table, at the mercy of others. They cut flesh from his body piece by piece, drained his blood daily, and performed trepanation.
It didn't seem like they were conducting experiments; it was more like intentional torture. They fed him nutrient solutions daily, keeping him alive.
"Base Commander, he's close to death."
"Since he can no longer provide any value, let him die." The woman's cold words directly sentenced him to death.
Immediately afterward, he was carried outside and tied to a stake. A large crowd gathered, hurling accusations and curses at him. They all threw torches they held...
Every scene in his mind felt as if it had truly happened, and he still felt a dull ache in his body.
His little Nanxing had also died so tragically. No wonder she wanted to ask someone to protect him. Silly girl, you've already done so well. I'll be able to see you soon.
I remember the ugly faces of those people. Li Manman, how much longer can you live? Hahaha~
