Chapter 58 Protecting the Zombie King 8

"Are you sure the C City base has developed a vaccine?"

"Yes, the zombies outside C City are gradually returning to normal."

"You may leave first."

The person lowered his head and turned to leave. The sound of crashing bowls and dishes followed. The two guards outside flinched.

Li Manman was extremely anxious. A few days prior, news spread about the establishment of a base in C City. She still felt in control of everything. Even if the base wasn't in A City, with the vast resources her family possessed, she believed those people would eventually come to her for help when they couldn't survive.

But now, with the vaccine, her entire plan was disrupted. Without the threat of zombies, the resources wouldn't seem so precious anymore. The country, under the leadership of the military, would quickly restore order, and their family's influence would be greatly diminished. Damn it, everything had gone as she dreamed at the beginning. Why did things change so unexpectedly?

"Go and summon Third Young Master."

Soon, a thin, sallow-skinned, shrewd-looking man knocked and entered. He bowed slightly and said, "Young Miss, you sent for me."

"Yes. Disguise yourself as a survivor and go to C City to scout for news about the vaccine. Keep in constant contact with me."

"Yes."

"Good, you may leave."

Li Manman went to see Li Changguo, who was still bedridden. Li Changguo looked as if he were on his deathbed, extremely thin, his skin sallow, his eyes sunken, and dark circles around them. Lying on a huanghuali wood bed, he heard the door open but couldn't be bothered to open his eyes.

"Father, the situation outside is very unfavorable for us now." Li Manman recounted everything that had happened outside to Li Changguo.

Li Changguo then opened his eyes and said unhurriedly, "Silly child, although the base has the vaccine now, their firepower and manpower are certainly no match for ours. They still need to send people out to rescue survivors."

"Tell Third Young Master to keep a close watch. When the time is right, we'll lead our men to attack. Control the vaccine developers, eliminate the military leader, and this H Nation will be yours to command."

"But Father, the vaccine has already been developed. Those zombies will soon recover. Once they become normal, will they still obey us? Our Li family will be doomed."

"Those who achieve great things are not bound by minor details. Either don't do it at all, or do it completely. Everyone has a weakness; if you can't seize it, then kill them in advance."

"You mean to make the vaccine developers work for us."

"Yes, you are teachable. Who among the survivors doesn't have a zombie relative? If you want those zombies to remain unharmed, they must listen to our Li family."

"Yes, Father. This daughter has learned her lesson. I will have my subordinates prepare, and we will attack C City at our best. You rest well and see how glorious our Li family will be in the future."

"I finally have someone to carry on the legacy. You may go now. I wish to be alone for a while." Li Changguo closed his eyes and tapped rhythmically on the edge of the bed with his fingers.

Li Manman lowered her head with a guilty conscience and quietly left the bedroom.

Third Young Master had only infiltrated the base for three days before he had a clear understanding of its layout. He sent a message back using a pigeon.

"Host, why don't we catch that pigeon?"

"If you don't court death, you won't die. They won't have the chance to reach C City."

"Oh, oh."

Upon receiving the message, Li Manman was overjoyed. As expected of someone personally trained by her father, his abilities were far superior to those she had brought along. The letter mentioned the layout of C City and provided detailed information about the vaccine developer she desired. Furthermore, C City's current troop strength was less than 200, which was a golden opportunity. Even Heaven was on her side.

After her joy, she immediately summoned a few capable assistants to her room for a meeting to devise a perfect combat plan. After the meeting, everyone returned to their rooms to rest and conserve energy, preparing to set off with their men early the next morning. Li Manman lay in bed, thinking of the wonderful life ahead, of the prestige she would command as Chairman, of becoming the Empress of H Nation. Hahaha, it was wonderful just thinking about it. Soon, with a smile, she drifted off to sleep, her dreams filled with countless treasures, supreme power, and all sorts of attractive men.

Late at night, in the affluent district of A City, a scream shattered the silence of the night.

"Ah~ My eyes, my eyes! Are you human or ghost? Do you know who I am? How dare you do this to me? I'll kill you, kill you!" Li Manman's words were becoming incoherent.

"Someone, come quickly! Where is everyone? How are you on guard duty? I'll make sure all of you die a horrible death!" As she spoke, she frantically hurled whatever objects she could reach towards the front. She had been immersed in a beautiful dream when suddenly her eyes felt a sharp pain, accompanied by a rotten smell. Before she could even see who had attacked her, she was blinded.

"Heh." Pei An sneered disdainfully at her panicked state.

Li Manman, now without her eyes, had exceptionally keen hearing. She turned her head towards the direction of the sound.

"Who are you? Whatever you want, I'll give it to you. If you leave now, I'll spare your life. If you wait any longer, my people will arrive, and you won't be able to leave." Li Manman said, trying to maintain a calm and commanding tone.

"Your people, Hahaha. They are already waiting for you on the road to the underworld!"

Li Manman pushed herself back with her hands on the bed, shaking her head and saying, "Impossible, you're lying to me, you're lying to me! I am the eldest daughter of the Li family. I have everything you want. I'll give you anything, just don't do this."

"Heh, I don't want anything. I've come today to take your life."

Li Manman heard this voice, which was completely unfamiliar to her. She was certain she had never offended anyone like this.

"Are you looking for the wrong person? I really don't know you."

"It doesn't matter if you don't know me; I know you are enough."

Li Manman felt an uneven, foul-smelling hand grasp her throat. The feeling of suffocation filled her with terror. Another unpleasant odor permeated the air. She kicked her legs, trying to break free from the person's grip, but those large hands were like iron clamps, constricting her lifeblood.

"You... Who... are you? Let me... die knowing." She glared unyieldingly in the direction Pei An stood.

"I am a vengeful ghost crawling out from hell to claim your life. The sins of your past life will be repaid in this one."

With that, Pei An turned and left the sinful place. After completing their mission, the zombies obediently returned to the main zombie horde outside C City.
