Chapter 638: Her Ex-Husband

Chapter 638: Chapter 638: Her Ex-Husband

Chi Yue’s words held no accusation against Xu Zhenwen, yet Xu Zhenwen unmistakably felt a profound sense of guilt.

After a long while, she said, "I’ve thought a lot during this time. At first, it was my fault, and later when you came into the picture, I felt that he was straying further and further from the path I had laid out for him. So, I directed all the blame towards you... Chi Yue, strictly speaking, the hatred between us was all my doing."

Chi Yue lowered her gaze, and Xu Zhenwen couldn’t make out her expression, only hearing her say, "I came to see you today to ask a favor of you. Of course, you have the right to refuse..."

...

Chi Yue stepped out of the hospital, feeling a significant easing of the emotions that had been weighing on her heart.

She remembered she still had an examination to complete, and upon calculating, it was indeed the day for the check-up.

After registering, she went to the doctor’s office for a requisition form and headed towards the medical technology building.

In the vast waiting room, Chi Yue instantly spotted Fu Rongyin and Lu Nanxi sitting there.

Lu Nanxi, with a sweet smile, caressed her belly, her face illuminated by the joy of impending motherhood, a sight that pained Chi Yue to the core.

She went to submit her information and then found a corner to wait for her number to be called, but as soon as she sat down, the system announced her name.

Chi Yue felt two pairs of eyes on her as she walked composedly towards the examination room.

Lying on the examination bed, facing the cold machinery, Chi Yue couldn’t help but feel her eyes redden.

The doctor thought she was in pain and offered a few words of comfort, which caused Chi Yue’s tears to fall.

After the examination, the doctor, concerned about Chi Yue’s unstable emotions, asked if she had come alone and whether she wanted a friend to come pick her up, but Chi Yue shook her head and exited the examination room.

She thought, even a stranger knows to show concern for her; was Fu Rongyin, her ex-husband, truly so callous as to watch her struggle on her own?

Having cried, Chi Yue walked out with her head down, bumping into a solid wall of flesh after a few steps.

Chi Yue looked up to meet familiar phoenix eyes.

Her gaze grew sharp as she prepared to bypass him and continue walking.

However, he stopped her again, "Is the examination over?"

Chi Yue responded coldly with a non-committal "Hmm," "Please step aside, you’re blocking my way."

Fu Rongyin showed no intention of moving, "What did the doctor say?"

"What does it have to do with you?" Chi Yue walked past him to see Lu Nanxi standing not far behind him, her expression blank as she said, "Stopping me here, aren’t you worried your lover might mind?"

Chi Yue thought she wouldn’t care, but she couldn’t ignore the most genuine thoughts at the bottom of her heart.

Hearing her words, Fu Rongyin glanced back, and Lu Nanxi stood there, nervously twisting the hem of her clothes.

Seeing him frown, Chi Yue laughed softly, taking advantage of Fu Rongyin’s delayed reaction to quickly skirt around him and leave the suffocating place.

She handed the examination form to the doctor, who prescribed her medicine for half a month and told her to return for a follow-up after some time.

Not wanting to visit the oppressive hospital again, Chi Yue asked the doctor to prescribe one month’s worth of medicine, deciding to observe her condition for two cycles before the follow-up, and the doctor finally agreed.

Even though Chi Yue had been extremely cautious to avoid Fu Rongyin, she ended up encountering him at the pharmacy.

He looked at the large bag of medicine in Chi Yue’s hand, his eyebrows knitted tightly, "Why so much medicine? Is it serious?"

He reached out to take her bag, but Chi Yue swiftly pulled it behind her, "Your concern is a bit excessive."

Chi Yue saw his hand, which he couldn’t retract in time, clench into a fist, veins popping on his knuckles.

Catching Lu Nanxi approaching out of the corner of her eye, she turned and walked away, her retreating figure both dashing and dismissive.
