Chapter 285: The Ender
Sophia was still in Axel’s lap, hugging him tightly while recounting the tales of her trials, while the man in question continued to listen attentively to her without making a single sound. Neither of the two could see each other’s expressions. Sophia paused for a moment, then continued again as she revealed,
"After the first firing of the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima, I was reincarnated again in 1950. Luckily, in that life, I recovered my memories quite quickly due to the train of fortunate or unfortunate events. From then on, I worked in the background slowly but surely, taking control of real powers that played from behind."
"I played the puppet master of the history, and what played a significant role in that endeavor was my new black form of energy, unlike the white energy, this one was far more versatile, I found out that if I paralyze any humans with my bloodlust, then inject the black qi into their brains, I could make them forcefully execute small commands on my will. However, this only works for normal humans and individuals with weak willpower. And their memories of that event would also be erased."
"Even normal humans, those who are strong-willed, I can only make them obey simple commands one or two times at best, and that would be all. But that alone was more than enough."
"Over the years, I moved from one country to another, playing hundreds of different roles. But all essential roles nonetheless, by the end of 2015, all the key leaders of all the countries that held power were in my grasp, and the key officials or channels of authorities that could null the process of launching the nuclear strikes were also under my control."
"I didn’t even have to do much; just a few big countries firing the warheads at each other, and the rest happened on its own. It was like a chain reaction as every single country that had nuclear power started to rain them down on the other, causing an eventual mutual destruction."
"It did not take more than 10 minutes for the entire world to be ravaged by total radiation, and I also made sure that every single nuclear bunker was destroyed. Every single inch of the Earth’s surface experienced the catastrophe of Nuclear warheads at that time."
"Rivers were dried up, lands quaked, mountains collapsed, animals turned to vapor, trees were gone, glaciers on the poles of the earth melted down. The oceans churned, and even the sea creatures that lived in the depths felt the whole planet shudder. New and old volcanoes all erupted simultaneously."
"The world ended, and I was the sole Ender of it. More than 7.3 billion humans were all dead in just 5-10 minutes, and I....I killed them...all, the whole of humanity," she stated in a broken voice.
The shock on Axel’s face at this moment was palpable, and so was the terror on his face, and it was not because of what Sophia did, but the first thought that popped into his head was pity. Compared to what he himself went through on the trial, she experienced thousands of such miserable lives one after the other.
It was sad, so sad for her. Why did she have to go through such pain? So much suffering that he couldn’t even imagine how she remained sane till now, as for the lives that she killed, he didn’t find himself caring about them much.
While it was definitely sad and wrong, he would choose Sophia over saving humanity a hundred times over if it were up to him.
Axel pulled back, looking at her teary face in guilt, "I’m sorry. I’m sorry, you had to go through all that. I’m sorry you had to face all that alone. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. I’m so, so sorry. It’s been so hard on you. You’ve suffered too much."
He couldn’t stop his own tears just thinking about the pain she went through, "If it were possible, I wish I could take the trial in your stead, so that you didn’t have to dirty your own hands. Don’t blame yourself. It was a mission given by Prime Nexus; you had to do it. You needed to do your best to get all the strength you could."
Sophia looked at him with wide eyes, "Do you know what you’re saying? I killed all of humanity, and for so many years, for so many reincarnations, so many innocent people were killed by my hands that you can’t even imagine. Men, women, children, innocent and guilty, I spared none. I.....I...I......hate it. For so many nights, in my sleep, I could see myself drowning in an unending river of blood that stretches for eternity."
He put a hand on her lips, stopping her from continuing any further, "Maybe you’re right, I don’t understand. But I don’t care about them either. All I see is that you have suffered, and that pains me too much to see."
He wiped the tears from her face and said, "I only care that you’re here with me, let alone 7 billion, I would kill trillions of them for you if necessary. You’re the only thing that matters to me."
Her mouth hung loose as she looked at him with unfocused eyes; a red flush took over her entire face, and her red eyes shone with a bright intensity. Her cheeks turned red, and her heart began to beat faster and louder. She embraced him again, taking in his scent, the monster inside of her was screaming madly, as if ready to devour him.
Sophia couldn’t help but wonder, ’How can he not hate me, even after hearing all that?’ She imagined him having so many types of reactions he could show; in fact, she had already resolved herself that he would definitely hate her, see her as a total monster after hearing that story, but this?
How can there be any other man in the entire world who would ever look at her with that gaze, even after knowing what type of monster she truly was? Their friendship back on her earth was one thing, as they were both merely children who didn’t know any better, but this was beyond that. Her possessive desire towards him had far crossed the threshold of lunacy.
