Hu Die Lan
Chapter 46 Easy Glory
Chen Guo herself couldn't remember how many times she had fallen asleep on that sofa while watching TV. Often, she would be woken up by the cold and silently crawl back to bed. This time, however, she woke up to find herself warmly wrapped in a blanket. The scent of the blanket was familiar; it was definitely hers. Still not fully awake, Chen Guo assumed she was sleeping in bed. She comfortably curled up in the blanket and rolled over, only to fall off the sofa with a thud.
Clutching the blanket, Chen Guo lay on the floor for a long while before she came to her senses. Only then did she realize she was still on the sofa. The sofa wasn't high, so she didn't hurt herself, but she felt both annoyed and amused. Hugging the blanket, Chen Guo got up and saw that the door to the small storage room was closed. She knew that the newcomer, Ye Xiu, was responsible for all of this.
After putting the blanket back in the bedroom and washing up in the bathroom, Chen Guo was halfway through getting ready when someone knocked on the door. Chen Guo, with a toothbrush in her mouth, opened the door to see a girl standing outside with a big smile and a lot of bags.
"Oh, Xiao Tang, you're back!" Chen Guo said, her mouth full of toothpaste foam.
"Yeah, why are you just getting up?" Tang Rou, who had her hands full with the bags, had called out instead of using her keys, only to be greeted by Chen Guo in such a state.
"I slept late last night!" Chen Guo insisted on chatting, even with her mouth full of foam.
"Brush your teeth first!" Tang Rou entered the house, casually dropping her things on the floor, and pushed Chen Guo into the bathroom.
"I heard you hired someone new?" Chen Guo brushed her teeth as Tang Rou leaned against the doorframe, tilting her head and looking at the closed storage room door.
"Yeah! Did they tell you about it?"
"Mhm."
"He doesn't have a place to stay for now, so I let him sleep there." Chen Guo said.
"I heard he annoyed you quite a bit on his first day?" Tang Rou had apparently picked up a lot of gossip downstairs.
Chen Guo was speechless. It was more than just "quite a bit"! Last night, she had even wanted to strangle the guy. But while he was annoying, he had also put a coat over her and covered her with a blanket. He was responsible for both good and bad deeds.
"What's wrong?" Tang Rou asked, seeing Chen Guo spacing out.
"It's nothing. He's really good at Glory." Chen Guo said.
"How good? Like you?" Tang Rou laughed.
"You little brat..." Chen Guo rolled her eyes, feeling rather depressed at the mention of this. Tang Rou hadn't played Glory originally. Chen Guo had tried to get her to play together, using her Chasing Haze account to PK in the arena while explaining the game's appeal to Tang Rou.
Being distracted, Chen Guo was soundly defeated in that match. However, Tang Rou immediately said, "Let me try," making Chen Guo feel quite gratified.
In the first match, Tang Rou was also soundly defeated. Afterward, she asked Chen Guo about some operational details.
In the second match, she still lost, so Chen Guo took the initiative to explain some of the tactics that could be used against her current opponent.
Then, in the third match, Tang Rou completely crushed the opponent.
"It's simple!" Tang Rou said to Chen Guo, the interest she had shown just moments ago already gone. Chen Guo could only stare in astonishment. A complete newbie, after familiarizing herself with the controls in two matches and learning some tactics, was already able to crush others.
Chen Guo wasn't quite sure about the opponent's skill level, so she borrowed an account from an internet cafe customer who played the same class as the previous opponent. Although Chen Guo played a Launcher, she knew a bit about other classes, at least more than someone who had only played Glory three times. Plus, she had her own skilled operations...
But in the end, she was still defeated.
Chen Guo couldn't believe it. She dragged Tang Rou, who wasn't planning on continuing, into several more matches. Although she barely managed to win a few times, she lost more and more, clearly because Tang Rou was becoming more and more skilled.
At this point, Chen Guo also realized the reason behind Tang Rou's incredible abilities.
Hand speed! This girl had an amazing natural hand speed, making Chen Guo, who had been playing Glory for three years and thought she was close to being a pro, feel ashamed.
Talent! This was talent. It was such a waste not to play Glory with such talent. Chen Guo began to try even harder to drag Tang Rou into the Glory world, but it was mostly unsuccessful. The charms of the Glory world that Chen Guo enthusiastically described were repeatedly met with sleepy yawns.
Chen Guo worked hard for two full months without seeing any results. The final straw was the challenge mission for the Realm of Gods. To enter the Realm of Gods, players needed to complete a series of missions, including some ordinary monster-killing missions, some boss-killing missions, some material-gathering missions, and some arena PK victory missions. But the most troublesome for players was the skills challenge mission.
The skills challenge mission not only required defeating the opponent but also required meeting many of the system's operational requirements during the process of defeating the opponent, such as the number of combo hits, the total damage from back attacks, and the number of aerial follow-up attacks.
Many people were stuck at this step, unable to pass it no matter what they did. Chen Guo was also stuck, unable to meet the requirements.
As a result, Tang Rou took her account, studied it for a few days, and helped her complete the skills challenge mission for the Realm of Gods.
Chen Guo was completely speechless. She finally understood why Tang Rou couldn't get interested in the game, because things that most people needed to work hard for were easy for her.
Glory was named "Glory" in the hope that players would treat equipment, skills, and every record as a glory. And players agreed precisely because these things were hard-earned and required effort.
But what about Tang Rou? She completed the skills challenge that stumped so many players in just a few days, so how could she feel any sense of glory? No one would consider something as simple as picking up a cup and drinking water as a glory.
Chen Guo was despondent but didn't want to give up. Over the past two years, she had pulled Tang Rou to try whenever there was a formidable opponent. But Tang Rou would repeatedly ask her, "Is that it?"
Chen Guo couldn't keep up appearances anymore! When she couldn't handle someone, Tang Rou would just say, "Is that it?" How could she bear that? So, in recent months, Chen Guo had rarely done such things. But now, with Ye Xiu being mentioned, the thought that had been sealed for a long time rekindled in Chen Guo's mind. Suddenly, she wiped her mouth, threw down the towel, and, with her hair in a mess, was about to smash Ye Xiu's door. "I'm going to wake him up so you guys can try."
"Hey, forget it!" Tang Rou quickly stopped Chen Guo. "Isn't he resting after working a night shift? Let's wait until he wakes up!"
"Oh, alright then." Chen Guo thought about it and decided to let it go for now. She picked up the towel and was about to continue washing when she suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right, his hands are like yours, very good-looking."
