Chapter 956 Fiancee

Chapter 16 Unspoken

Just then, a sound came from the bar door. A filthy person walked in, limping, with stiff steps and tattered clothes. It was a man with a blank stare.

The man appeared to be quite old. Only after he got closer did Jiang Cheng notice that he was holding some papers, very much like the missing person notices they had seen before.

Not like, it was!

After the man came in, he didn't say a word. He went straight to the bar, grabbed the top missing person notice with his thin hand, and handed it to the burly bartender. His movements were stiff, yet with a hint of familiarity, as if it had become a habit.

Jiang Cheng noticed that the photo on the missing person notice was of a slightly plump woman, who looked relatively young. He didn't recognize her.

Seeing the man come in, the burly bartender's face instantly turned ugly. He had already been drinking, and veins popped out on his forehead. He snatched the missing person notice, tore it to shreds in front of the man, and, still not satisfied, crumpled the pieces into a ball and threw it at the man. "Are you ever going to stop? So many years have passed, she's long dead. She went to a place like that; there's no way she could still be alive. If you ever dare to step into my bar again, I'll break what's left of your leg!"

Surprisingly, the man who was being scolded seemed used to it. He silently squatted down, without saying a word, and picked up the crumpled paper. Then, he unfolded it bit by bit, flattened it, pieced the fragments together, and after putting it away, limped out of the bar.

From beginning to end, he didn't say a single word.

After the man walked out of the bar, the burly bartender still seemed to be seething with anger, panting heavily. He coldly said to Jiang Cheng and the others, "Out-of-towners, I advise you to go back where you came from, while you still have a chance. Otherwise..." He paused, glanced outside, "You saw that man just now, right? He's looking for his missing fiancée. If you don't want your families to end up like him, leave this place as soon as possible."

Everyone was used to similar warnings. They also knew what they were facing, but there was no choice. If they didn't find out the truth, they would all die here.

"He's looking for his fiancée?" Huai Yi was a little surprised. He had also seen the woman in the photo; she was very young, at most in her early twenties, but the man was already very old.

"Heh." The burly man sneered, saying in a strange voice, "That tramp, we all call him Old York. He's been looking for his fiancée in this area for 30 years."

"How did his fiancée go missing?" Jiang Zhao asked, following the burly man's lead.

Unexpectedly...

"Old thing..." The burly man, who had been fine just now, suddenly became angry, glaring at Jiang Zhao and cursing, "Get out of here! You old coffin dodger with one foot in the grave still wants to trick me into talking? Are you looking for death?!"

The burly man's mouth movements were clearly not like that, but what they heard carried a strong local accent. This strange feeling couldn't help but make everyone feel a little dazed.

Before everyone could react, the burly man began to chase them out, brandishing a wine bottle. "Get out! All of you get out! Get out of this town, the farther the better!"

After chasing them out, the bar door slammed shut from the inside. Through the door, they could still hear the burly man cursing Jiang Zhao's family, using fluent and beautifully articulated Chinese.

Jiang Zhao's face was flickering, quite colorful. Jiang Cheng noticed that his body was shaking constantly, his fists clenched tightly. Clearly, even with this old fellow's forbearance, he was about to lose it.

"Look!" Fatty had sharp eyes and saw someone being pushed out of a store not far away, falling to the ground.

It was the limping man from before.

When they walked over, the man slowly got up from the ground. His first reaction wasn't to check if he was injured, but to pick up the scattered missing person notices on the ground.

Fatty saw the man's hands covered in scars and frostbite, and suddenly felt a little unbearable. He bent down to help the man pick them up, and then Jiang Cheng and Huai Yi joined in.

"Hello." Jiang Cheng handed the missing person notice in his hand to the man. "Is there anything we can do to help you?" Jiang Cheng's purpose was to test him, and he wanted to know if this man could still speak. He wanted to know about the man's fiancée.

The man only cared about taking the missing person notice with his head lowered, but just when Jiang Cheng thought there was no hope, the man, who was originally looking down, paused, as if he smelled some kind of scent. He sniffed a few times, and then suddenly raised his head, his turbid eyes fixed on Jiang Cheng's face.

"You went to that place?" The man's voice was inhumanly hoarse, sounding like he hadn't spoken in a long time. It was a little rusty, and even a little terrifying.

Jiang Cheng instinctively took a step back. He wasn't clear on the man's background, but then, the man went forward as if he were crazy, grabbing Jiang Cheng's wrist. "You went to that place, then you must have seen my fiancée!" The man's eyes seemed to shoot out light, his sharp nails digging into Jiang Cheng's flesh. "Tell me, where is she? Where exactly is she?!"

"She's still alive, right? She must still be alive!"

Fatty and Huai Yi saw that the situation was not good and were about to rush up to help. Huai Yi picked up a brick from the side of the road and was about to give the man a concussion combo, but Jiang Cheng stopped him with a look.

Jiang Cheng endured the pain in his wrist, and said in as calm a tone as possible, "If I knew more details about your fiancée, I would be happy to help."

With just this sentence, the man seemed to have grabbed the last straw, revealing a foolish smile, "You've seen her, you must have seen her!"

"You've all been to that place, you have the scent of that place on you!"

Everyone knew what place the man was talking about, that strange manor, but as for the scent the man mentioned...

Jiang Cheng acted relatively calmly. He was worried that asking too much too quickly would stimulate the man in front of him. After thinking for a moment, he gently sniffed his other arm, then looked at the man with an excited face, and slowly said, "I seem to remember some things, but... what do you mean by the scent? Why can't I smell it?"

After these words, the man showed an extremely strange expression on his face, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, his chest heaving violently, his tone nervous and fearful, "Of course you can't smell it, but some things can smell it. They've already targeted you, just like they once did to my fiancée."

As if in response to the man's words, suddenly, a strange and unpleasant cry sounded. Everyone looked in the direction of the sound. On a withered tree not far from them, stood a black bird.

The black bird tilted its head and stared at them, then suddenly opened its mouth and let out an unpleasant cry.
