“What should I say then?” Shen Xi looked at him in surprise.
She didn’t understand what else one could say besides “thank you” when receiving help.
Qin Si Ye gazed at her deeply, his voice gentle, “You don’t need to say anything. Just keep it in your heart for now. When I’ve figured out what you should say, I’ll tell you then.”
Shen Xi couldn’t help but frown. What did he mean by that?
If she didn’t need to say anything, why did he need to tell her what to say on some future day?
Did this man not want to give up, wanting to maintain this subtle relationship with her forever and continue on this path?
Just then, Shen Xi’s phone rang. She took it out and was so startled that she almost dropped it onto her lap.
“What’s wrong? Whose call is it?” Qin Si Ye asked with concern, tilting his head.
Shen Xi lowered her head and replied, “Xie Yifei’s mother.”
It was almost midnight, and she had forgotten to call her godmother. Her godmother must be worried sick since Yifei hadn’t returned home and had called her to inquire.
“Hello? Godmother.”
“Xixi, is Yifei with you? Why hasn’t she returned yet, and her phone is unreachable,” Xie Han’s anxious voice was laced with worry.
“Yes. She’s with me. She’s had a bit too much to drink, so she’s staying at my place tonight. Godmother, don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her,” Shen Xi replied gently, her dark eyes darting back and forth.
Hearing this, Xie Han let out a long sigh of relief, “That’s good. I thought something had happened. Take good care of her and get some rest early.”
“Okay. Godmother, goodnight!” Shen Xi forced a weak smile onto her face.
After hanging up, she looked out the window with a slight frown, thinking about what Xie Yifei had gone through today. If her godmother knew, she would be so worried and heartbroken.
And all of this was for her. She swore she would not let Xia Jingyi get away with it.
Qin Si Ye kept glancing at her, noticing her low spirits. He asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… nothing.”
As soon as Shen Xi finished speaking, a stray dog suddenly darted out onto the road ahead.
Qin Si Ye had been focused on observing her and only noticed the dog after it had been caught under the wheels.
In his panic, he slammed on the brakes. With a “thump,” Shen Xi’s forehead hit the dashboard.
Qin Si Ye’s heart tightened. He quickly turned to check on her, “Does it hurt? Let me see.”
“I’m fine.” Shen Xi covered her forehead with one hand and pushed him away with the other. “Quick, go see how the dog is!”
“Let me see how you are first?” Qin Si Ye held her small hands, insisting on checking, but was met with Shen Xi’s slightly angry gaze.
He had no choice but to compromise. “Alright, alright, I’ll go down and check first.”
Half a minute later, he got back into the car.
Shen Xi asked worriedly, “How is it? Is the dog seriously injured? Should we take him to the vet?”
Unexpectedly, Qin Si Ye glared at her, “It didn’t hit it at all. It ran off long ago.”
Saying this, he turned Shen Xi’s chin with a pained expression, gently took her hand away, looked at the spot that had been bumped, and whispered, “It’s red, and you say you’re fine.”
He then extended his finger and gently blew on it a few times. Just as Shen Xi was about to lower her head to break free, the man said sternly, “Don’t move, it’ll be better in a moment.”
He leaned his body slightly towards her, and a powerful masculine aura immediately enveloped her.
Shen Xi felt a surge of panic, and her body stiffened, unsure of what he was going to do.
Her mind went blank, her gaze fixed on him as he slowly approached, but she was unable to resist.
The next second, a warm breath suddenly landed on her forehead, once, twice, three times…
It turned out the man was blowing on the spot where she had bumped herself, trying to soothe her pain.
What had she been thinking just now?
What a suspicious mind she had.
Shen Xi thought, her ears even turning red with shame.
A minute later, Qin Si Ye gently released her, his gaze serious as he looked at her, “I’m sorry! I wasn’t controlling my speed well just now, and the braking was too abrupt.”
His eyes were filled with concern, apology, and deep affection as he looked at her.
