Chapter 3 Vanished into Thin Air

The towering Gu Corporation building.

In the CEO's office on the sixty-sixth floor, a deathly silence permeated the air, so thick it felt suffocating.

"You're telling me, after all this time, you've found nothing?" Gu Qichen raised his eyes to look at his assistant, his tone unnervingly calm, his gaze equally composed, yet an inexplicable chill emanated from him.

"Yes, President Gu. Madam seems to have… vanished into thin air." The assistant dared not even breathe, sweat beading on his forehead from sheer tension.

Vanished into thin air?

Gu Qichen narrowed his eyes. "You think a person can just vanish into thin air?"

The assistant swallowed, no longer daring to reply.

This was the most perplexing situation he had encountered in his years of work. He had searched desperately, yet found not a single clue about Qin He!

"Keep looking," Gu Qichen commanded, his voice low.

Wiping the cold sweat from his brow, the assistant retreated.

A sense of unease settled upon Gu Qichen. He tugged at his tie, rose, and picked up his suit jacket from the hanger, heading home.

The villa was equally silent.

Gu Qichen vaguely recalled that whenever he returned home occasionally, the living room was always bathed in a warm, yellow light.

And that beautiful, obedient woman would always be waiting for him, curled up on the sofa.

Now, however, it was pitch dark.

Gu Qichen reached out and switched on the lights. As the sudden brightness flooded the room, he instinctively closed his eyes, unaccustomed to the glare.

Then he opened them again, to find the interior empty.

No one would be waiting for him anymore, to take his coat, to prepare a table of food.

He raised a hand and pressed a hand to his chest.

This was the first time he felt such a biting cold in this home.

...

After recuperating at home for over half a month, being waited on hand and foot, Qin He felt she was starting to rot.

Qin Yun had almost completely erased any traces of her. Seeing her like this, he couldn't bear it. "Why don't you go out and have some fun?"

Qin He's eyes lit up, and she immediately dialed her best friend.

Xu Wanwan was quite surprised when she received her call. "What made you think of calling me?"

Qin He was sitting on her own garden swing, basking in the sun with her feet propped up. "I want to ask you to go out."

Xu Wanwan found it even stranger.

While they had kept in touch frequently over the past two years, Qin He had never initiated plans to go out.

She would always say she needed to cook for Gu Qichen or something similar, her every conversation revolving around that man. It drove people mad.

Xu Wanwan tentatively asked, "Go where? A bar?"

To her surprise, Qin He readily agreed. "Sure."

Inside the bar, a kaleidoscope of lights danced wildly.

Xu Wanwan waited for Qin He at the entrance.

Shortly after, a striking sports car pulled up in front of her. A woman in black high heels stepped out. Seeing Xu Wanwan at the door, she pushed down her sunglasses with a finger and smiled at her. "I'm here."

Xu Wanwan stood frozen.

Had Qin He taken the wrong medicine?

Didn't she play the role of a devoted wife for that man? Today, her attire was so daring and cool, she looked like she was here to conquer all.

"You're out today, your husband..."

Qin He shrugged. "What about my husband? My brother is urging me to go out. Oh, right, I forgot to tell you, I was hit by a car and lost two years of my memory."

"?!"

Xu Wanwan's eyes widened in disbelief.

No wonder.

Suddenly, a thought struck her. This was perfect timing, allowing her to forget that scumbag Gu Qichen.

What wonderful news!

She immediately slung an arm around Qin He's shoulders, almost wishing she could set off firecrackers. "Come on, sister's happy today. I'll take you out!"

As they entered the bar, the stage was empty, the drum set silent, creating an eerie quiet.

"Want to play a song?" Xu Wanwan raised an eyebrow, looking at Qin He. "I'm going to dance."

Before leaving, she paused. "You still remember how to play, right?"

Qin He's red lips curled into a smile. She snapped her fingers. "Watch this."

When Gu Qichen entered the bar, he saw this scene.

On stage, a woman's face was filled with a wild, unrestrained expression. Her thick, dark hair swayed with her movements. Her sunglasses were perched atop her head, making her look even more stunning.

She expertly drummed on the set before her, her red lips curved upwards, an air of proud defiance radiating from her.

Gu Qichen's steps halted.

Those around him, noticing his darkening expression, followed his gaze. They were so startled they stammered, "Holy crap, isn't that… isn't that our sister-in-law?"

Gu Qichen's gaze was as dark as spilled ink, a bottomless black.

He had been searching for Qin He for days, and she had seemed to have vanished into thin air.

He never expected to see her again, and in a place like this!
