Chapter 116: Possible death sentence!
Chapter 116
"Everybody! Get the hell outta here now! It’s an A ranked beast!" Lyra shouted, her voice laced with fear.
"An A ranked beast?" Jace muttered in horror as he took careful steps back, his eyes locked on the monstrous new entrance before them.
Zen, Vynn, and the now-standing Aria, along with the men they had been fighting moments ago, turned to face the new threat.
’Shit! Inspect skill!’ Zen called out inwardly.
[Inspect skill ac...]
[Error! Skill is unable to be activated. Enemy is too strong.]
Tring!
[Host needs to find a way to escape now or else he is looking at a possible death sentence. Lol]
’I don’t know if the damn system that speaks in my mind and the one that displays this quest are similar, but I fucking hate them all.’ Zen roared internally, forcing himself to shake off the irritation as his gaze darted back to the beast. It was tilting its head, scanning and eyeing the humans in front of it like prey.
’Fuck! I usually get excited to battle anything, be it humans or beasts. But I... I don’t know why... my body keeps trembling.’ Vynn thought, his grip on his sword unsteady. His hands rattled uncontrollably, betraying his fear even as he tried to steady his breathing.
"Okay. I think this is my cue to get out of here." Blake muttered as his eyes darted around. With a stomp of his foot, he prepared to bolt, but the motion only drew the beast’s attention.
It turned sharply in his direction, amber eyes glinting. In a fluid, whip-like motion, it extended its viny arm, snapping through the air like a monstrous tentacle.
"Shit..." Blake coughed as the blow slammed into him before he could move. His body was flung like a ragdoll, crashing through tables, blood spurting violently from his mouth.
"Tom!" Lyra cried as she charged forward without hesitation. Swords shimmered into view around her—dozens of them, sharp and bright like falling stars. Within moments, fifty blades hovered at her command.
She leapt forward, clapping her hands together, and the swords surged, blasting toward the beast at blistering speed. They cut through the air, a storm of steel and death, so fast it was nearly impossible for anyone in the shack to follow them.
The beast merely raised its massive viny arm in front of its face. The blades pierced into the thick wood, burying themselves deep, but no blood flowed. The vines twisted and held firm, shrugging off the impact.
"Flame Veil: Fire Slash!" Tom roared. He kicked off a wall, swinging his greatsword in a blazing arc. A massive wave of orange fire erupted from the blade, racing straight toward the creature.
But before it could land, the beast moved. Its body blurred with terrifying speed, vanishing from its original spot. The fire slash exploded harmlessly into a wall, tearing a molten hole through it.
The beast reappeared in front of Tom in an instant, towering over him. It opened its mouth and unleashed a guttural, ear-splitting roar, the sound shaking the walls as if thunder had cracked within the room itself.
Without pause, its vine-like arms lashed forward, elongating like monstrous serpents.
’Damn it!’ Tom cursed inwardly. His instincts screamed at him to dodge, but he knew he wouldn’t make it in time.
But he didn’t have to.
"Ahhh!" Lyra roared defiantly, leaping into the vine’s path. A massive shield materialized before her, shimmering brightly.
BANG!
The impact sent a shockwave through the shack, rattling walls and shaking the ground. Lyra gritted her teeth, her eyes blazing with determination as she held the line.
"Thank you," Tom muttered, crouching slightly as flames burst brighter around his greatsword. Heat rolled off his legs and blade like a blazing inferno, his gaze locked on the beast. Then...
Bang!
Tom exploded forward like a meteor, his sword raised high above his head as flames coiled wildly around it. His body blurred through the air, and in a flash, he was descending straight toward the beast’s skull with everything he had.
’Lyra is keeping its two hands occupied. This is my chance. If I can sever its head, then maybe we stand a chance!’ Tom thought as his grip tightened, his knuckles white, every muscle in his body straining for the finishing blow.
But just as he was about to land, his pupils shrank.
’Shit!’ he panicked. From the beast’s shoulders, fresh vine-like limbs burst out, thick as tree trunks and moving with astonishing speed. They weren’t just arms, they were spears, each one sharp enough to impale stone, all of them aiming directly for his chest.
Tom did the only thing he could. With a desperate roar, he twisted his body midair, swinging his flaming sword in front of him, hoping the inferno would shield him.
The vines struck.
The collision was brutal. The sheer force behind the beast’s attack overwhelmed him, and despite his fiery guard, the impact sent him flying out of the air like a broken arrow. His body slammed into the wall with blistering force, shaking the entire shack as debris rained down.
"Ugh!" Tom groaned, coughing as his back scraped against the cracked wall.
"Tom!" Lyra shouted, her teeth gritted as she finally managed to hurl aside the beast’s original hands that had been keeping her occupied. Not wasting a second, she reached into the air, and a new weapon shimmered into existence in her grip—a spear.
Without hesitation, she hurled it.
The weapon tore through the air like a thunderbolt. As it spun, winds gathered violently around its shaft, spiraling into a tornado that magnified its velocity and power. The pressure was immense, and the sound alone made the weaker men in the shack cover their ears.
The spear smashed into the beast’s chest with devastating force, the wind funnel pushing it deeper, driving the massive creature backward. The floor cracked beneath its weight as it skidded several feet, its body tearing gouges into the ground.
The beast roared but managed to stop itself by slamming its massive hands into the ground, halting its backward slide with an earth-shaking impact. The ground split apart where it stood, but the creature had planted itself firmly.
"Water Veil: Wheel of Death!"
Jace finally had his moment. His voice boomed with fury as he leapt into the air, his soaked blade glowing brilliantly. He spun midair, his movements precise, and then he slashed downward.
A colossal wheel of water erupted from his blade, spinning like a buzzsaw. Its speed was astonishing, tearing through the air with a screeching howl before it slammed into the beast’s outstretched arms.
SHRRRKKK!
The watery wheel carved clean through, severing both arms in one devastating strike. The beast’s massive limbs thudded heavily onto the ground, lifeless, as the severed vines writhed briefly before going still.
Jace landed smoothly on the ground, chest heaving, and a grin spread across his face. For a moment, triumph surged through him.
But his victory was short-lived.
The sound of wood splitting filled the shack. The spot where he had severed the arms bubbled and writhed. The beast’s vines twisted like wriggling serpents, surging toward the stumps of its shoulders.
"Oh shit." Jace muttered, his confidence evaporating. His eyes widened in terror as the beast’s limbs regenerated before his very eyes, reforming at an even faster rate than before.
And before he could even blink, the monster blurred forward. In less than a heartbeat, it was towering directly in front of him.
