Chapter 117: Team Up!
Chapter 117
"Shit, shit, shit!" Zen kept mumbling beneath his breath as he watched the fight between the powerhouses of the group. "I...I...I’m unable to keep up with just my eyes. They are moving faster than I can see."
’Damn it! I knew my instincts were right. I could feel that something bad was about to happen. Didn’t know that an A-ranked beast would pop out of nowhere. Wait! Where did it come from though?
We had thought that the scammers were controlling the A-ranked beast, but I just saw it whack the leader of the group. So where did it suddenly appear from? Something is wrong, visibly wrong somewhere. What is it? What the hell is going on?’ Zen thought as he tried to make sense of the high-speed movements taking place in the room.
’Fuckk! I can’t find an opening for me to join in! Give me something! A space! I also want to battle an A-ranked beast tooo!’ Vynn cried out inwardly, his frustration building.
He was itching to join, which was evident because his hands never left the hilt of his sword. Small sparks of lightning danced across his fingers and crawled along the sheath, crackling violently, almost as if begging to be unleashed.
’Yes, I’m scared of the beast. But if I’m always scared of something levels above me, how will I become an overpowered Reaver? Those at the top also faced something crazy before they got to their current ranks.
If I keep hesitating, I’ll never break through my limits. So I guess this is my own big break.’ Vynn grinned to himself as he locked his gaze onto the beast, trying to track every single movement. His pupils widened, his breathing slowed, and that was when he saw it.
An opening!
The beast had just regrown its limbs and instantly blitzed towards Jace, the one who had severed them. Jace looked helpless for a moment, as though he wouldn’t be able to dodge in time.
"Lightning Veil." Vynn called out firmly as he took a stance, his right leg extended behind him. Bolts of lightning could be seen crackling wildly, striking the ground and leaving cracks in the stone as debris was kicked up with each spark.
His hand rested firmly on the hilt of his sword which was still in its sheath, and without hesitation, he called out.
"Thunder Flash."
BANG!
The sound barrier shattered instantly as Vynn moved like a blur... no, not just a blur, but almost like an actual lightning bolt. In the twinkle of an eye, he was directly in front of the beast. Its viny hands were outstretched, about to impale Jace, but Vynn had already intercepted.
That was when he unsheathed his sword in one smooth motion and in a flash, swung it horizontally, aiming to cut through the beast’s limbs. Unfortunately, his sword was too weak to pierce such hardened vines.
But Vynn didn’t freeze. He adapted. With a sharp yell, he changed tactics and whacked the beast’s long vine hands with raw strength, sending them crashing into the ground. The vines quivered angrily, shaking dust into the air.
And in that very same moment, Vynn kicked off the ground, spun on his heel, grabbed Jace by the arm, and blitzed aside. The beast had already recovered and thrust its hands forward again, hoping to impale both Jace and Vynn, but they were already gone, retreating in a flash of sparks.
And all of this had happened in five seconds.
"Are you okay?" Vynn asked quickly as he stared at Jace, who was trying his best to calm his wildly beating heart.
"Yes. Thank you." Jace managed to say, his voice still shaky. He glanced up and saw the beast scanning the battlefield with glowing, hateful eyes, its vines twitching in anticipation.
Blake, who had been struck earlier, could now be seen struggling on his knees, his chest bleeding heavily from the slash of the beast’s limbs. He was clutching the wound, his face pale with sweat dripping down.
"Argh." Tom groaned out as he rose slowly from where he had been hurled earlier. His mouth dripped with blood, but his eyes still carried a fierce determination that showed he wasn’t done yet.
"Is everybody okay?" he asked hoarsely, wiping the blood from his lips with the back of his hand.
"With an A-ranked beast here, how do you expect us to be okay?" Lyra shot back sharply, her eyes never leaving the beast as it loomed in the center of the room like a nightmare come alive.
"Alright. I’m pissed off." Blake spat as he rose to his feet, his eyes burning with rage as he glared down at the shirt he wore. It was ripped open across the chest, leaving his skin bleeding and his temper rising.
"This damned trunk thought it was funny to tear apart a vintage shirt I bought for one ether? Nah, it needs to pay badly for this." He added, a deep frown twisting his face.
"Whatever." Lyra scoffed. She had already swapped her shield for a katana blade, the steel glowing faintly as sparks of lightning danced across it. Her glare was fixed on the beast, her whole body radiating killing intent.
Her footwear shifted, morphing into a set of sleek black boots. The moment she pressed her feet into the ground, the floor cracked, creating a crater beneath her heels as if the earth itself couldn’t withstand the pressure.
"Just try to keep up." Lyra mocked, a sly smirk tugging at her lips.
BAM!
A thunderclap echoed through the shack as she vanished from sight, exploding forward with such force that the ground beneath her caved in further. In the blink of an eye, she appeared in front of the beast, her katana already mid-swing.
She sliced upward without hesitation, her blade trailing arcs of lightning. A streak of electrified energy tore through the air and slammed into the beast’s chest with a thunderous bang. The impact blasted the creature back several meters, skidding across the ruined floor as a jagged crack split open across its chest.
For a moment, a single drop of thick black blood oozed from the wound.
But then, like a nightmare regenerating, the crack sealed. Tendrils of vines writhed and moss spread across the injury, covering it completely until no trace of the damage remained.
"Oh? You can bleed?" Tom’s voice rang out as he stepped forward, a wicked grin plastered on his face. He swung his sword in a wide arc, flames erupting around it until it blazed like a miniature sun. The fiery glow reflected in his eyes, giving him a feral look.
"Good to know, because..." He let his words hang as flames erupted beneath his feet, swirling in a violent vortex. Then, with explosive force, he rocketed forward, moving twice as fast as Vynn had earlier.
"I’m about to make you bleed more." Tom finished, his tone calm yet deadly. Without hesitation, he thrust his blade forward with terrifying force.
"Inferno."
The ground quaked as a funnel of flames spiraled into existence, a fiery tornado roaring forward with speed that left afterimages of heat in its trail.
The beast reacted instantly, dragging its thick, elongated vine arms in front of its face in a desperate attempt to block the attack.
But the moment the flames crashed against its defense, its limbs ignited like dry paper, burning away completely. Charred stumps dropped to the ground, the acrid scent of smoke filling the air. For the first time, the beast’s entire body was exposed to the Reavers.
And that was when Blake appeared again, his expression grim and furious. He didn’t look too happy—no, he looked ready to erase the entire beast from existence. He slammed his palms down onto the floor with all his strength.
"Sound Veil: Absolute Destructo!"
KABOOOM!
The shack erupted in a deafening explosion, the walls shattering apart as shockwaves tore through the air. The entire structure disintegrated, wood splinters and debris flying in all directions like cannon fire.
