Chapter 38: Clearing Obstacles

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Clearing Obstacles

Elias Lancaster’s eyes reddened with excitement, a peculiar emotion spreading through his chest. It was the first time he heard the heartbeats of the two little ones.

Trembling, he asked, "Are they boys or girls?"

"That I can’t tell you, hospital regulations." Renee Aniston shot him a glance.

"Uncle, let’s just wait for the reveal, only then we’ll have the surprise," Serena Yeats said.

Finally, Renee had Elias go pick up the medication, while she and Serena chatted, discussing many pregnancy precautions.

"Elias is always busy with work, Serena, you’ll need to be patient," Renee said with a smile. "No worries, come play at home sometime."

"Sure." Serena felt the kindness from Renee.

Elias returned with the medication and handed it to Serena, "Here."

Serena obediently accepted the medicine.

Renee gave Elias a look, "Just two boxes of medicine, can’t you hold them? You have to make Serena take them."

"I want to hold her, leaving no free hand."

As Elias spoke, he bent down and lifted Serena from the chair.

Renee. "..."

This...

Just her first day back to work after vacation, and she was already stunned, needing time to process.

Serena held the medication in her alabaster hands, her heartbeat quickening.

It wasn’t until she was set down in the car that she managed to calm down, her heart still pounding like thunder.

Elias got in the car, sat next to her, and naturally pulled her into his embrace.

Serena leaned against his broad chest, enchanted by his unique scent, never getting enough of it.

"Uncle..."

She had just started speaking when Elias interrupted. "Serena, isn’t it time to change what you call me?"

"Huh?" Serena was taken aback, "Then what should I call you?"

"Call me by my name," a glimmer flashed in Elias’s eyes, "or you can call me husband."

Husband??? She didn’t dare to address him as such, so Serena called, "Elias."

Elias’s brows furrowed slightly.

After some thought, he let it go. At least she wasn’t calling him Uncle anymore. Every time Serena called him Uncle, he always felt like... he was worse than a beast. Take it slow.

His long fingers lifted Serena’s chin as he leaned down to gently kiss her tender lips.

Serena’s clear eyes widened instantly.

There are others in the car!

So naughty!

Serena’s clear eyes looked at the man in front of her, and the reproach in her gaze made him want to tease her more.

The driver in front, being quite perceptive, immediately raised the partition.

Just as Serena let out a sigh of relief, Elias pressed down and kissed her lips.

Her thoughts were swept away by the man’s breath.

The soft sensation between their lips.

Suddenly.

Elias’s phone interrupted the beautiful moment.

"Elias, your... phone is ringing."

Serena nudged him.

He buried his face in her neck and took a deep breath.

Then he glanced at the phone, picked it up, and put it to his ear, his voice cold enough to make one shiver, "Speak."

On the other end, Henry Fletcher seemed to sense an intense cold, listening to Master Lancaster’s unfulfilled tone.

He couldn’t help but sigh, even Master Lancaster should show some restraint, as the young wife was carrying the precious heir of the entire Lancaster Family!

"Hmm?" Elias, noticing a lack of response on the line, made a questioning sound.

Henry snapped out of it, "Master Lancaster, the results are out. The young wife isn’t the biological daughter of David Yeats and Scarlett Jewel.

They confessed that back then, in the suburbs of Sudford, they accidentally hit the young wife with their car, and at the time, they thought the young wife was dead and wanted to find a place to bury her.

Later, they realized she wasn’t dead, so they brought her back to Aethelgard. The young wife fell ill and lost all her memories prior to the age of seven. And one more thing, Master Lancaster, we’ve found someone is trying to harm the young wife."

"Arrange for people to come over as soon as possible." Elias furrowed his brows, lost in thought.

Sudford?

His mind replayed Aniston’s surprised expression in the meeting room earlier and what she had said.

Could she know something?

After hanging up the phone.

He took Serena back home and then headed out immediately.

He went straight to the hospital to find Renee.

"Aunt Aniston."

"What’s the matter? Did you forget something?" Renee looked a bit puzzled.

Elias glanced at the time, "I’d like to invite Aunt Aniston for a meal."

Renee, seeing his expression, knew he must have something important to discuss. She handed over a task and followed him out.

At the restaurant.

Renee spoke, "Elias, you can speak directly, I’ve watched you grow up, no need for formalities."

Elias looked at her, "Aunt Aniston, my wife Serena Yeats was adopted by her current parents, she’s not their biological daughter."

Renee was momentarily stunned, recalling the exquisite face of the young girl, and had a hunch, could she really be her daughter?

The mere thought scared even herself.

"Aunt Aniston, when you first saw Serena, you said she looked too much alike. I want to know if you know something?" Elias looked at her odd expression and got straight to the point.

Renee sighed, "I’m close friends with Ruby Yates from the J Keaton Family, we’ve known each other since high school. That year, she took seven-year-old Minnie Keaton to Sudford to visit her parents, but....."

Renee, recalling the events of that year, couldn’t help but shed tears.

"Elias, Serena and Ruby look really alike, they’re like exact replicas. Ruby nearly went mad back then because of this."

Elias furrowed his brow slightly but also breathed a sigh of relief.

Thank goodness.

His little girl had accidentally gotten lost; if she found out, she’d be really happy.

She’d always been worried, worried that her biological parents had abandoned her.

After lunch.

Elias sent Renee back to the hospital.

Before getting off the car.

"Aunt Aniston, I hope you’ll keep this matter confidential until there’s solid evidence."

"I understand." Renee nodded.

Elias went to the office, and after handling the paperwork, recalled what Henry had said, that someone was trying to harm his little girl.

He made a call.

"Have you found out who it is?"

"It’s the Young Miss Thorne, Yves Thorne’s sister. She hired Sam Hughes. I was drinking with Sam yesterday, and when he got drunk, he spilled it, saying they paid a million dollars, asking him to take a few people and....."

"Got it."

After hanging up the phone.

He asked Quentin Shaw to bring Yves over.

When Yves saw Quentin, he was momentarily puzzled, a phone call would’ve sufficed.

After arriving at the teahouse, seeing Elias sitting there with a cold face, Yves had a bad feeling.

"Master Lancaster, is there an issue?" He furrowed his brow and asked.

"Send your sister abroad, never to set foot in Aethelgard again." Elias said while handing the transfer records in front of him.

And then had Sam Hughes brought in.

Moments later.

Yves understood that Elias was giving him a favor on account of their years as classmates.

"Rest assured, I’ll handle it."

In the evening.

The man emerged from the bathroom, seeing the little girl sitting on the bed. He checked the time, walked over, and took the phone from her hands.

"Serena, why are you still up tonight?"

Serena wrapped her hands around his neck, "Elias, I can’t sleep, I want to eat strawberry cake."
