Chapter 207 A Close Call

"Mr. Lu, we found the car!"

"Where?" Lu Yanbei's half-clenched fist tightened abruptly.

"By the seaside," Cheng Jue reported nervously.

Without a word, Lu Yanbei forced the driver out of the car and drove towards it himself, so much so that he didn't even hear what Cheng Jue said afterward.

What should have been a fifteen-minute drive, Lu Yanbei covered in just eight.

He leaped out of the car and ran desperately towards the road below, disregarding his appearance.

The bodyguards were already using pliers to break the lock.

The driver had fled early on, throwing the car door keys into the sea. In desperation, they had to go back for the pliers, which caused a slight delay.

When the refrigerated truck was opened, a thick layer of ice had formed inside. Su He, huddled in the corner, was almost frozen into an ice sculpture.

Lu Yanbei pushed aside the bodyguard in front and was the first to climb into the truck.

He walked to the corner of the vehicle, cupped Su He's face, and called out to her several times.

Su He remained motionless, only the slight tremor of her eyelashes indicating she was still alive.

"Mr. Lu, a blanket." Cheng Jue rushed over, panting as he climbed up.

Lu Yanbei wrapped Su He in the blanket and carried her down from the truck. The sun was strong outside, yet Su He was still shivering from the cold. Fortunately, she still had a breath left.

"There's no hospital on the island. I've contacted the nearest private hospital, and the helicopter will be here shortly." He was indeed a capable assistant to Lu Yanbei, thinking of everything.

Lu Yanbei's face was grim, and he didn't say a word.

His gaze was fixed on Su He.

Five minutes later, the helicopter landed, and Lu Yanbei, without any hesitation, boarded with Su He.

Su Ying had wanted to go along, but the helicopter could only accommodate four people, so she could only watch them leave.

"They just left like that. What about the wedding banquet?" The family members who followed exchanged glances.

"The ceremony is over anyway, so toasting is irrelevant." Su Ying pursed her lips. She never liked following the rules, and the wedding was no exception.

Su Lin, however, was still concerned about Su He. "Let's follow them. I won't be at ease until I see her wake up."

Jiang Xiaoxiao felt the same.

Su He had disappeared under her watch and suffered so much; she couldn't shake off the guilt.

Su Ying patted her shoulder. "It's not your fault. Don't take it to heart."

Jiang Xiaoxiao shook her head, her eyes welling up again.

"I'll call Mom and Dad and let them know," Su Ying said, turning to inform Tang Jiaojiao. To avoid worrying them, Su Ying only said that Su He was not feeling well and had gone back to rest early.

On the Lu family's side, Lu Yanbei gave a similar explanation.

Elder Master Lu knew his grandson and granddaughter-in-law disliked socializing, so he let them be. When others inquired, he brushed them off with a single sentence: "The young people don't like these formalities. They'll do their own thing, and we'll have our own fun."

With the Elder Master present, no one dared to press further.

"I saw Young Master Lu leave in a hurry just now. Could something have happened?"

"I also noticed there were suddenly more security guards outside... But with the Elder Master here, it's probably not a big deal."

"Who cares! The ceremony is over, and it'll be time to disperse soon!"

Although the guests were curious, their minds were still focused on networking with influential people. Anyone invited to the Lu family's wedding was either wealthy or influential, and even a few words of conversation could be highly beneficial. If they could get contact information, it would be even better.

Attending the wedding was secondary.

A storm had passed, and the matter had been smoothed over.

As for the few who quietly departed, no one noticed.

At a private hospital, as soon as the helicopter landed, medical staff rushed over with emergency kits.

Su He was taken into the emergency room. Her breathing had stopped several times midway, but she was miraculously resuscitated each time. By the time she was wheeled out of the emergency room, a crowd had gathered outside.

"How is she?" Lu Yanbei and the Su siblings spoke almost simultaneously.

The doctor removed his mask and reassured everyone, "She's temporarily out of danger. However, we still need to perform some tests to determine her internal condition. She may need to be hospitalized for observation for a period."

"That's good, then." Su Ying clutched her chest and stepped forward to hold Su He's cold hand. "You scared me to death!"

Su He had regained consciousness by now, though she was still weak.

She managed a weak, apologetic smile at Su Ying. "I'm sorry, Sis..."

"We'll settle this after you've recovered!" Su Ying said fiercely, but her hand covering Su He with the blanket was exceptionally gentle.

Others also took turns offering their condolences, all looking extremely worried.

Only Lu Yanbei remained silent, more so than anyone else.

Su He noticed his unusual behavior and reached out to tug at his sleeve. "Husband~"

Hearing her call, Lu Yanbei's eyes showed a flicker of emotion. "Yes, I'm here."

"I want to be alone with him for a while," Su He winked at the others.

Su Ying and the others obediently withdrew from the VIP room.

The three Su siblings had somber expressions.

Although Su He was out of danger, the mere thought that she had almost not survived filled them with resentment, wishing they could tear the culprits limb from limb.

Su He was the treasure of the Su family, cherished beyond measure, and yet someone had treated her like this!

"Bastards! How dare they harm my sister! If I find out who instigated this, I will never forgive them!"

"To be able to act under such heavy security, they must not be ordinary people!"

"And they call themselves the top security company in the country, utterly useless!"

The three of them huddled in a corner, voicing their anger and curses.

"What about that driver? Have they caught him?" Su Lin asked.

Su Chen took a puff of his cigarette, his face grim. "Someone was waiting for him, and he escaped. However, the security guards saw his face. We should find him soon."

"When you find him, remember to let me know," Su Lin clenched his fists, making his knuckles crack.

"What do you plan to do?" Su Ying glared at him warningly.

"Of course, avenge my sister!" Su Lin gritted his teeth.

"Don't forget, you're a public figure. Don't do anything rash!" Su Ying twisted Su Lin's ear.

Su Lin yelped in pain. "Why do you both like twisting ears?"

"Can't I?" Su Ying glared back.

Su Lin pouted and snorted.

Compared to the two, Su Chen appeared much calmer. But judging by the way he was chain-smoking, he was also furious. Seeing him light one cigarette after another, Su Ying couldn't help but snatch the lighter from his hand. "This is a hospital. Try to be a bit more restrained."

She tilted her chin, pointing at the girl sitting on the bench. "That young lady is terrified. Aren't you going to comfort her a little?"

Su Chen looked at Jiang Xiaoxiao in the distance, his lips pressed together.

Su Lin was bewildered, looking confused.

Just as he was about to ask, Su Ying pulled him away. "This is grown-up business. Children shouldn't interfere!"

(Man-child) Su Lin: ...
