Chapter 429: Chapter 429: Blocked
The cold mechanical female voice made Evelyn Clayton freeze in place.
Did James Grant just block her?
Evelyn gritted her teeth slightly.
Yara Reagan’s call quickly followed.
"How is it, how is it?" Yara Reagan was full of hope, "Did John Jacobs get found?"
Evelyn exhaled silently, stood up, and prepared to go out, "He’s already caught. I’m going to handle some paperwork now. If all goes well, I’ll be back tonight."
On the way to the police station, Evelyn booked a return flight.
After completing the paperwork and making a statement at the police station, Evelyn inquired about the driver who was arrested.
"Oh, that person is being detained. The specific sentence will take some time. John Jacobs isn’t from Y Province, so we’ll hand him over to the police station in his registered locale. As for that driver, I’m afraid he’ll have to serve his sentence here."
Evelyn pondered for a moment and said, "I heard he has a wife who’s sick in the hospital. If possible, could you give me her hospital address?"
The police didn’t ask much and just said they would investigate, promising to inform Evelyn once they found out.
However, Evelyn couldn’t stay long in Y Province, so she repeatedly confirmed with the police that once they found the driver’s wife’s address, they must tell her.
In the early morning, Evelyn boarded the plane to return.
Yara Reagan drove to pick her up; the airport was deserted at this hour, and Evelyn spotted her immediately.
"Finally, you’re back!" Yara exclaimed excitedly as she ran over, took the luggage from Evelyn’s hand, and gave her a hug.
Evelyn gave a slight smile: "Is everything at the company okay?"
"Everything’s fine, everything’s fine. With me here, and Violet Ford came over a couple of times, everything’s alright!" Yara said eagerly, then asked, "How’s John Jacobs’ situation?"
"The Y Province police will detain him for a period before sending him back here for sentencing. It’s certain he’ll serve time in prison." Evelyn paused, "The affairs with Vanreid are also almost settled. Once John Jacobs is brought back, we’ll have an audit review Vanreid’s accounts, and after liquidation, the factory will still be ours."
The audit and liquidation are controllable matters. At this point, those are no longer concerns.
Yara finally let out a sigh of relief, "That’s good. Really, dealing with John Jacobs these days has been quite a headache."
Reaching the parking lot and placing the luggage, Yara started the car.
Casually turning her head, she noticed Evelyn in the passenger seat. Yara exclaimed, "How come you don’t look so good?"
Evelyn’s lips moved slightly, and she said calmly, "It kept raining in Y Province, maybe I caught a cold."
"Oh, have a good rest when you get back! It’s fine not to go to the company for a few days," Yara said casually, then smiled, "Speaking of which, I remember your flight to Y Province was canceled that day, wasn’t it? Then the next morning, you were already there. I forgot to ask, how did you get there?"
Looking at the rapidly passing street scene outside the window, Evelyn’s long eyelashes quivered slightly as she said slowly, "Yes, James Grant took me there."
Saying this, she glanced at Yara.
Yara immediately felt guilty and coughed lightly, "I didn’t mean to let that slip. He insisted on asking."
Evelyn naturally had no intention to pursue this matter. She pretended to be casual and said, "It’s okay. Have you heard anything about him these past few days?"
"Nope." Yara shook her head, "It’s the same as usual, still in a deadlock with the Grant Family. But Jasper Grant, he’s becoming more impressive."
Evelyn was taken aback, "How so?"
"Atlas has officially announced it; Jasper Grant is the new Executive President. It seems Harrison Grant truly plans to oust his eldest son."
